Bloomberg News reports that on Monday, the chief executive officer of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, signaled that he would be okay if Sam Altman joined OpenAI. He expressed the same, although he had announced that Sam Altman would join Microsoft in the artificial intelligence innovation department.
What did Nadella Express?
Nadella said he is open to both options, either Sam Altman joining Microsoft’s artificial intelligence innovation department or joining OpenAI. He expressed the same when asked Monday at an interview about the possibility of Altman joining Microsoft.
Nadella revealed that it was for the management and board of Open AI and the employees to select. He also said that Microsoft wanted to partner with OpenAI. And the tech giant still has the same intentions to date. However, it will depend on those associated with Open AI to decide whether they will continue to stay at Open AI or migrate to Microsoft.
Turmoil at Open AI
Open AI, the ChatGPT creator, was in turmoil Friday when the board fired Sam Altman abruptly. Microsoft has invested $13 billion in Open AI. This makes Microsoft the biggest backer of the company.
Consequences of Firing Altman
Following the news, hundreds of employees of Open AI threatened to leave. Also, President Greg Brockman put down his papers. The company appointed Mira Murati as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

On Monday, a new interim CEO, the co-founder of Twitch Emmett Shear, was announced by OpenAI. Following this, Microsoft said that it would be onboarding Altman. After Nadella made the announcement, the stock of Microsoft skyrocketed to a closing of an all-time high.
Bloomberg News reports that Sam Altman was contemplating a return to OpenAI amidst the fluid leadership. Satya Nadella expressed that Microsoft continues to remain committed to the agreement and Altman regardless of the company’s configuration.
When asked about the current scenario, Nadella said that it would be great to have Greg and Sam on board and intend to offer them a great home if they are not going to OpenAI.
However, he also said that it is evident that governance needs to change.
