Around 5 p.m. on Thursday, the shooter opened fire on a road in Raleigh. He managed to avoid the officer for a few hours until being cornered in a house. At 9:37 p.m., police arrested the suspected gunman.

Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin confirmed the number of fatalities at a press conference following the horrific incident. He said a second officer from a Raleigh Police K-9 squad had been shot and received non-life-threatening medical care. It was a tragic day for Raleigh city.
The police identified the alleged gunman as a Caucasian teenage male carrying a long gun and donning camouflage. However, authorities chose not to disclose his name or age. The Raleigh Police Department is now on the site of an ongoing shooting. It is advised that locals in that region stay in place, Raleigh Police had previously tweeted. The police verified that they had detained the individual in a subsequent tweet.

An eyewitness reported hearing two loud gunshots, followed by another three, revealing something had happened in the neighborhood. In response to the armed suspect in East Raleigh, Governor Roy Cooper tweeted that he had discussed with Mary Ann and sent state law enforcement to assist. Four people were treated at WakeMed Health and Hospital‘s trauma center. According to the Associated Press/USA TODAY/Northeastern University Mass Killing Database, the incident in Raleigh is the 25th mass shooting in 2022 in which victims were shot to death.
