Tips for Choosing the Right Gaming Monitor for You

The gaming monitor is the heart of any PC gaming setup. The pleasure of playing games and players’ performances greatly depend on the quality of the monitor. Gaming PCs and gaming monitors are costly, but you need the best gaming monitor to do justice to your gaming ambitions. Choosing the right monitor for your gaming PC is of utmost importance because the PC’s performance greatly depends on the quality of the monitor. Only the right monitor can support the state-of-the-art motherboard and the next-gen graphics card of the CPU. Gamers heavily bank upon these to take their gaming experience to the next level. They must understand the need for powerful peripherals that multiply their pleasure and performance many times.

    Gaming Monitor – Selection Criteria

The gaming monitors are exclusive peripherals built for gaming PCs only that can support the specifications of PCs entirely and provide the best display on the screen. These monitors are much bigger than the average PC monitors and have much higher resolution. Since PC games have complex graphics, only big-size monitors are suitable to display the images most vividly and produce sounds that provide a sublime gaming experience. Besides the size, the other aspects of gaming monitors, such as resolution, refresh rate, quick response time, lower input lag, and speaker quality, are equally important. Only when you tick the right boxes that you can get the best 4k gaming monitor

This article should help you understand the specialty of gaming monitors, which are different from general-purpose PC monitors.

    Quick Response Time

Gaming PCs use highly advanced graphic cards compatible only with gaming monitors of the appropriate configuration that can support complex technology and produce the liveliest visuals on the screen. To make the most vivid displays, gaming monitors have faster response time, directly related to the refresh rate measured in Hertz (Hz). The refresh rate indicates the number of times the monitor refreshes the screen every second. The minimum refresh rate of basic gaming monitors is 60 HZ, double that of basic monitors and televisions. However, higher refresh rates produce the best displays for gamers, and 144 Hz ensures a performance boost. Higher refresh rates provide perfect syncing of the PC output with the monitor, meaning gamers can see precisely what is happening inside the PC on the screen.

Response time is the time each pixel takes from one setting to another, measured in milliseconds (ms). A response time of 5ms is good for gaming, but for a superior gaming experience, achieving 2ms or 1ms should be the target.  Currently, the benchmark is 1ms.

    Screen Size and Resolution

Screen size and resolution go hand-in-hand. The screen size primarily depends on the desk size and usually ranges between 24” and 32”. Bigger screen size means better visibility and higher resolution, which provides more detailed and sharper images. Most importantly, the screen size impacts resolution, and you can choose between a full HD display and a 4k gaming monitor. The QHD or mid-range monitor of 27 inches is a popular choice with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. A 4k monitor would require a 27-inch screen; the biggest screen size can be up to 32 inches. The 27-inch, 1440p display is the most optimal monitor for gamers because the image is sharper than Full HD and puts less strain on the graphics than the 4K monitor. Moreover, the refresh rate of 140p is higher.

    HDR vs. Refresh Rate

Although there is a notion that more resolution translates into better image quality, the reality is that HDR or High Dynamic Range has a higher impact on image quality than higher resolution. The HDR imagery adds a dash to the visuals and more vivid colors, although HDR in computers has yet to be a well-accepted idea. To get the most from HDR, it is necessary to have a maximum and minimum brightness. HDR displays offer greater contrast with deeper shadows and brighter highlights while maintaining every detail perfectly. Since HDR has many options, you must have the proper support.

Knowing what constitutes the best gaming monitor will make it easier for you to pick one that helps fulfill your gaming ambitions. Whether you are a professional or casual gamer, the approach is the same regarding monitoring selection.
