A group of customers filed a lawsuit claim saying that Apple’s watch had a defect that could cause injuries.
As per Bloomberg news, the customers had complained, saying that in its quest for compactness, Apple had failed to provide enough space inside the watch to allow the swelling of the internal battery. This can result in the watch screen cracking, detach or shattering.
in a complaint filed by customers Thursday in the Oakland, California federal court, it said that the cracked, shattered, or detached screens are material and can be unreasonably dangerous to the user.
The four customers who filed the proposed class-action lawsuit included in the complaint a photo of a deep slash suffered by one of the customers on the arm. This was purportedly caused when her Apple watch series 3 model screen detached.
The customers informed that the screens were made of sapphire crystal glass for the titanium and stainless-steel models and Ion-Glass for others. Each of these types had sharp edges on all four sides.
According to the lawsuit filed by the customers, Apple Inc had violated the various consumer protection laws by releasing its product with prior knowledge of the defects.
The lawsuit filed by the group of complainants includes those customers who had purchased any Apple model from the first generation in 2015 till last year. This year’s model was not included.
Apple has not responded to the request for comment on the matter.
Apple had offered to replace, free of cost, cracked screens of its Series 2 and 3 aluminum watches in a program in 2019.
The company on its website informed that Apple had concluded that cracks might form along the rounded screen edges under very rare circumstances.
The case filed in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (Oakland) Smith v. Apple, Inc, 4:21-cv-09527
