How did This Hotel Start?
This boutique hotel forms a part of the giraffe centre that was established in 1970s by a British-Kenyan couple known by the name Jock Leslie-Melville and Betty Melville. They started breeding species and incidentally discovered the Rothschild’s giraffes. The Rothschild Giraffe is an endangered species of giraffe but the couple introduced a pair of the Rothschild giraffe at the Kenyan National Park.
The centre boasts of a museum, a breeding program, nature trails, as well as an observation deck where the tourists can feed and meet the endangered Rothschild giraffe.
Staying at the Giraffe Manor Kenya
The Giraffe Manor Kenya is also known as the Giraffe Hotel. At present there are as many as 20 Rothschild giraffes. Here, as a visitor, you can take part in some of the conservation programs. You can find out about Giraffe Conservation Foundation and participate in one of their sponsorship programs.
Things to Do While Staying at Giraffe Manor
Aside from feeding and watching the giraffes here, and associating yourself with the center for the conservation of the Rothschild giraffes, you can visit the Karen Blixen Museum. This museum is at a distance of 10 km outside Nairobi.
The Nairobi National Park is a must-visit while you put up at Giraffe Manor. You get to enjoy the wildlife and its beauty here. It is the first game reserve of Kenya. Not only that it is also home to the country’s black rhino sanctuary in the country.
After having visited the above places, you can take a tour of Nairobi Animal Orphanage. This orphanage houses a huge number of warthogs, leopards, lions, serval cats, jackals, the rare Sokoke cats, buffalo, monkeys, and baboons.
Last but not the least, according to the staff of the Giraffe Manor, there is a saying that unless you give food to the giraffes, they will not befriend you! Unless they get their treat, they might not entertain or even glance at you.
