The latest adrenaline-gushing thriller from the Fast and Furious franchise, released in the theaters in the USA on May 19, 2023. It was slightly behind the Fast X release date in other countries. The high-octane thrill ride opened in theaters in Belgium, Brazil, China, and Colombia on May 17, 2023, two days before the US release. Considering that the earlier installment of the franchise, F9, released during the pandemic, had a spectacular run. So the fans of the franchise had expected a repetition of the same with Fast X.
Looking deeper into the Fast X release date
Since the date of release of Fast X is now a thing of the past, let’s set our eyes on some other exciting and lesser-known facts about the release of the latest movie. The latest movie was set to release after F9 in April 2021, but since F9 did not release as per schedule, it was only natural to push back the Fast X release to April 7, 2023. However, things did not work as expected, and the release occurred in May 2023, as cited above.
The plot
The new movie might seem like old wine in a new bottle for fans of the Fast and Furious Franchise. Yet, they can enjoy the high-action thrills of roaring fast cars, the war of wits and chase between cops and the underworld, and a family trying desperately to renounce their violent lifestyle in search of peace and safety.
However, as things do not always work as we wish, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family, once again a target of a ghost from the past, return to haunt them. Dante, played by Jason Momoa, the vengeful son of the drug lord Hernan Heyes, is on a mission to make Toretto suffer by harming his family. The action-filled plot holds the audience on the edge of their seat as they want to see whether Dante can fulfill his mission or Dom would bet the better of him to save his family and friends. The plot stokes the audience’s curiosity who wants to know who else from Dom’s past might return from the dead to torment him.
A director’s film
The film has a weak plot as the scriptwriters Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin, instead of doing anything new, prefer to re-introduce the previous characters, alive or dead, and try to fit them within the fast-paced and action-oriented world of the Fast and Furious franchise. The storyline is as simple as it can be – an old enemy returns to take revenge on Dom, his family, and his friends. The director, Louis Leterrier, knows that to turn the simplistic script into a great thriller and action movie. He needs to bank upon an ensemble of talented cast, which he does with enough gusto and succeeds. He extracts the best performances from the actors and speaks highly about his directorial capabilities.
The way he shot numerous action sequences is simply brilliant. Although the audience knows that the bizarre actions and events are all imaginary, they cannot resist indulging in escapism and keep hanging on the edge of their seats while craving more. The cinematographer Stephen F. Windon forms a fantastic partnership with the director by supporting him with the magnificent picturization of exotic locales that create a heavenly experience. The VFX work is excellent. The perfect blend of superb technicalities and acting brilliance takes the film to new heights.
