Wuhan, the city in China from where Covid-19 is said to be spread, faces a lockdown after almost three years. Over 800,000 people in Wuhan are prohibited from going outside again.
Covid-19 Surge
Not only Wuhan but other cities of Central China and Xining in its northwest are also strictly implementing lockdowns. The reason behind the restrictions is the rapid rise in the COVID graph, and the country witnessed over a thousand new cases for the third consecutive day.
Although the COVID surge went up to more than one lac cases per day earlier this year, the new graph is also alarming for the authorities.
Pork selling has been suspended in the city of Wuhan after reports suggested that the meat supply chain might be the reason for the virus spread. This week Wuhan reported around twenty-five new cases of Covid-19 per day and almost 250 new cases in the last fourteen days, making the administration impose strict lockdown for people till October 30.
The Impacts
But the residents of Wuhan are more worried about their livelihood than the virus.
Guangzhou, a Chinese city with massive economic output, also faces restrictions in maximum parts because of the virus spread. It’s been the fourth week since cities and districts of China are witnessing a COVID surge.
Xining is facing a worse situation, as per reports.
Prices of essential commodities, including food items, are skyrocketing, and there is a shortage in supply too. Health authorities instructed grocery stores to be kept closed to combat the virus.
The authorities are fearing more because the entire situation resembles the initial days of the pandemic when the virus just started to spread. So, they are preparing themselves to lower the risks of virus transmission as much as possible.
