Japanese start-up AERWINS Technologies decided to make its US debut at the Detroit Auto Show. The hover bike billed as the first flying bike in the world was directly compared to the Star Wars bikes. The XTURISMO is frequently referred to as the appropriate platform for the perfect car with various characteristics in the era of urban mobility. In October 2021, the flying bike was presented to the general public in a flying demonstration in Japan after being formally demonstrated as a workable device.
Detroit Auto Show‘s Co-chair, Thad Szott, who test-rode the hover bike, called the encounter “nice” and “exhilarating” and stated it looked like something out of a sci-fi film.
The Design
The Aerwins XTURISMO hover bike takes design cues from a quad-copter with additional propellers as it soars above the earth using several propellers. Two large propellers control its front end and the back by four little propellers, two on every end. The hover bike’s main propellers are utilized to give it the required lift, and the smaller ones serve as stabilizers. The hover bike’s internal combustion unit and batteries work together to drive the propellers. The hover bike is quite loud due to the noise of the power supply and the propellers, but the business intends to reduce the hover bike’s noise levels in the future.
Its Attributes
The 300-kilogramme XTURISMO flying bike has a top speed of 100 kph and can fly for 40 minutes (62 miles per hour). The flying bike is currently available for purchase in Japan. A miniature version will be sold in the US in 2023, as per Shuhei Komatsu, the industry’s founder, and CEO.
The cost of this flying vehicle is astronomical at $777,000. (Over 6 crore INR). The founder of AERWINS claimed that the business is attempting to reduce the price to $50,000 for a smaller electrical variant but that the project will take 2-3 years to complete and be available by 2025.
A Kawasaki hybrid engine powers the internal combustion engine XTURISMO flying bike. It has two main rotors and four auxiliary ones that serve as stabilizers. The business wants to find a way to the noise when it enters the entire operation. However, it is rather noisy. The XTURISMO, which has a lot of carbon fiber pieces, is 3.7 meters (146 inches) long, 2.4 meters (94.5 inches) broad, and 1.5 meters (59 inches) tall. It can fly for up to 40 minutes at a top speed of 60 mph (97 kph). The hover bike weighs 300 kg (661 pounds) and can carry up to 100 kg (220.5 pounds).
The future of urban mobility
Currently, the 200 Limited-Edition XTURISMOS will be delivered in 2022, after which commercial manufacturing will begin when costs decrease. Perhaps by the time this flying motorcycle reaches that point, VTOL regulations and guidelines will have caught up. Future mobility nodes are anticipated to include flying vehicles like automobiles and motorcycles. A Japanese start-up firm aims to introduce hover bikes in the United States by the end of the following year. The revolutionary flying bike made its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show. The flying bike can fly or hover just above the earth, blurring the distinction between reality and imagination with its introduction. The launch of XTURISMO marks the start of a new adventure into the realm of mobility in the future.
