Earlier, before billionaire Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion or at least thought of buying it, you could check trending news on the micro-blogging site or catch the attention of users with the latest news. But now, Twitter is itself news that is always trending.
The latest news about Twitter comes with owner Elon Musk unveiling Twitter Files: part 2, a tweet thread claiming that a secret committee decided to manage the platform secretly and without oversight.
What are Twitter Files all About?
The second part of the internal files regarding restrictions of free speech was brought to public notice by Musk Friday morning when he retweeted the original post by Bari Weiss, an independent journalist, to reveal more secrets about the platform.
To start the thread, Weiss tweeted that investigation revealed that Twitter has teams of employees who build blacklists, stop “disfavored” tweets from going trending, and limit account visibility of users or trending topics posted by them without informing them.
The secret committee is claimed to be headed by Jack Dorsey, Parag Agarwal, Yoel Roth and Vijaya Gadde.
She added that the same platform that powered the users by allowing them to create and share information and ideas without any restrictions has now created barriers for them.
In a series of tweets, Bari Weiss described how Twitter is blocking and blacklisting right-wing thinkers using various ways like “shadow banning.”
What the New Boss Had to Say?
The new Twitter owner rushed to support Dorsey and claimed Dorsey had nothing to do with what is being called Twitter Files: part 2, as well as rejected all the allegations brought by Weiss.
Musk wrote in his tweet that Jack “was unaware of systemic bias” and “has a pure heart.”
Musk had earlier tweeted a link including Weiss’s account, where internal communications and documents of Twitter were posted serially.
What Was There in Part 1?
The Twitter Files: part 1 implicated Vijaya Gadde in suppressing the laptop story of Hunter Biden, son of US president Joe Biden, on Twitter.
