Liz Truss said she was resigning as British Prime Minister soon after the Conservative Party defeated the opposition’s attempt to make the British Parliament consider legislation banning fracking.
Truss was finding it hard to cling to the chair of the UK Prime Minister as her economic policy sent shockwaves across the country. A leadership election may take place next week.
The House of Commons saw the Conservatives win over the Labour Party by 326 votes to 230 votes amid witty scenes.
Conservative Party’s whip said it was more like a confidence motion in Truss’s government which is currently embattled.
But some Tory MPs weren’t willing to participate in the voting, and Graham Stuart, the Climate Minister in Truss’s cabinet, said in the House of Commons that this was not a confidence motion. Ruth Edwards, another Conservative MP, asked Stuart whether he would like to lose the whip by refraining from voting or voting against the confidence motion, and Stuart replied to Edwards that this was a matter to be decided by party managers and not by him.
Extreme ruckus was created inside the House of Commons during voting. Some Tory MPs were allegedly dragged to vote in support of the Truss government.
The ruckus in the Parliament made it more difficult for Liz Truss to hold power. The MPs were seen screaming and pushing each other, which according to some of the Labour
MPs, were never seen before.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman was reported to ask to resign as she had disputes with the Prime Minister over immigration, and that led to turmoil within the party. Some Conservatives MPs were forced to vote in Truss’s favor, and others said they were ashamed of the whole situation.
