Bloomberg News reports that the five-member crew set out to the Titanic died from a “catastrophic implosion.” They had set out on a submersible vehicle.
What does the US Coast Guard have to say?
After the US Coast Guard examined the debris, they discovered it underwater on Thursday during the early hours and concluded. They used a remote-controlled vehicle. The debris was 1600 feet or 488 meters from the Titanic’s bow.
On Thursday, while at a briefing, Rear Admiral John Mauger stated during a Boston briefing session that they promptly informed the families. He also said he offered his condolences on behalf of the US Coast Guard and the Unified commands.
Saga of the Titan:
The name of the missing craft was Titan. It had given rise to a lot of enthusiasm as well as fascination. The international fleet of ships and aircraft scavenged and scoured an area in the North Atlantic almost twice that of Connecticut.
Rescuers were on their toes when they found that the estimated oxygen supply of the Titan was just 96 hours and was fluctuating. They had lost contact with Polar Prince, the Canadian research vessel, on June 18.
Earlier in the week, the US Coast Guard said there were unknown noises during the search. However, they also said these sounds had no links to the missing vessel.
Who was the deceased on Titan?
Bloomberg News reports that on board the Titan were –
1. Hamish Harding, age 58, hailing from the United Kingdom, and founder of Action Group and an ardent adventurer. Action Group is an investment firm.
2. Paul-Henry Nargeolet, age 77 years. He is a French maritime expert.
3. Stockton Rush, age 61. He was the Chief executive Officer of Everett, OceanGate Inc, which has its headquarters in Washington. OceanGate Inc ran the expedition.
4. Shahzada Dawood, age 48
5. Suleman Dawood, age 19
Shahzada Dawood, as well as Suleman Dawood, were a father-and-son duo. They belonged to one of the most prominent families hailing from Pakistan.
Titan – the unfortunate research craft
The Titan was made up of carbon fiber and titanium. It was 6.7 meters long and designed to carry one pilot and crew. Additionally, the craft could reach a maximum depth of 4,000 meters or 13,120 feet.
According to the OceanGate website, on-board technology may monitor the crew’s health and provide early warnings. Furthermore, it allows enough time to halt the rapid drop and bring the ship back to the surface.
However, no messages were received following a mothership on the surface and one that lost all contact with Titan on June 18. Not only that, the contact was lost just one hour and 45 minutes after Titan initiated its descent to the Titanic, which sank in 1912. Titanic was on its first ever trans-Atlantic sail.
