Joe Biden’s administration will allow twenty-four thousand migrants from Venezuela to enter the USA and stay for two years if they want, in a legal way.
The Conditions
However, the Venezuelans who will cross the border illegally will not be entertained. US officials said they would implement a program as they did for Ukrainians after Russia attacked them. But the migrants will need financial sponsors to guarantee financial support to them, and the sponsors should be US based, said the Department of Homeland Security.
If the applications of the migrants are approved, they can come to the USA from Venezuela. The secretary of the department, Alejandro Mayorkas, added that Venezuelans could enter the USA legally only and there is no other way than a lawful entry. Those attempting illegal entrance via the southern borders will be turned back to Mexico and will not get the approval to enter the United States in the future. The migrants taking a legal path to the USA will not only be safe and secure but can work here.
Reason Behind the Move
The administration is initiating the program to prevent the unauthorized entrance of migrants to the USA, which is otherwise rising high. Over two million encounters at the border took place with migrants in the previous fiscal year.
Recently, asylum-seekers from Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba in a hig h number have been trying to enter the USA. The rising number of migrants increased political pressure. States are sending hundreds of migrants to New York and Washington. The USA wants to solve the problem of keeping in touch with Mexico.
Venezuela and Cuba share a complicated relationship with the USA, so sorting the migrants’ crisis out requires much work. These actions taken by USA and Mexico will address the irregular migration problem, as the new release by the Department of Homeland Security stated.
