Many people call this the Lion mentality, and it is a well-known motivational topic, “Lion Mentality.” Here’s my take on why the Lion is the King of the Jungle and why they dominate it so well.
Though fearless and fast, Lions are neither the largest nor the fastest animals in the wild, so why have they declared Kings? Well, they use strategy. A wild beast using strategy, wild, right?
They usually are found in groups or “prides.” Similarly, when driving a team to success, it is crucial that the participants and the leader all stick together.
Well, that being said, it is appreciated to have healthy discussions and challenge each other to make each other grow. This also means looking at setbacks as lessons for growth. Like Edison has said, “Just because something doesn’t do what you planned it to do doesn’t mean it’s useless.”
Take all your past failure’s data and analyze it; you will find insights that will significantly help you distinguish between what works and what doesn’t.
Moving on, Lions are highly territorial, and have strict boundaries, and let no one else within their territory. Likewise, leaders make boundaries = goals. And they don’t rest until they achieve those goals.
To achieve these goals, be territorial, protect them, guard them and keep them safe. Take ownership and be responsible, not just for your territory but also for your pride. Your pride is your team.
Managing a territory will also come with a fair share of sacrifices. We all know that nothing great ever has been achieved without any sacrifices. When working with a team, you have to lead with an “us” attitude rather than a “me” attitude. Their success will always surpass your own needs.
Lions are loud animals who communicate through roaring. Communication is an essential medium of growth and comprehension.
And for me, comprehension is way more important than communication. What is the point of communicating to someone if they don’t even understand it? Keep your communication simple and easy, though loud and clear.
It is not easy to understand someone else’s vision; this makes comprehension one step above communication. If your team doesn’t understand clearly what you want of them, they will never be able to deliver.
Lion cubs join their mother for hunting as young as 11 months. They begin their journey early. Humans don’t hunt, but we do wake up. Waking up early and setting an intention for the day can change your habit of procrastination.
It also helps with your thoughts first thing in the morning instead of mindlessly following a routine. Being mindful and working on yourself before working with others is a good idea.
Finally, lions mark their territory, and they leave a mark. Create ideas that you know will impact you and everyone around. Not only an idea, a presence that leaves an effect on people’s minds and is hard to forget.
