Bloomberg News reports that just ahead of the launch of the iPhone, Apple has finally admitted what has been long clear. There is a slowdown in smartphones in the industry.
It is less than a month and a half before Apple Inc unveils the iPhone 15. It has admitted a reality that is quite hard to digest. The smartphone market in the United States is facing a slump.
Sluggish sales reported
On Thursday, slow sales of iPhones were reported. This causes the stocks of Apple to plunge. The company revealed the same when it said that the smartphone market had declined for the past couple of quarters in the US.
Posed with challenges
The present scenario prevailing in the smartphone market has presented several challenges. It is the biggest update for the device in the last three years.
It has been seen time and again that when the other versions of iPhones were introduced, like the iPhone 6 in 2014, iPhone 12 in 2020, and iPhone X in 2017, the features were enough to let the devices get sold by themselves. In these earlier versions, the upgrades included larger screens, designs being revamped without any home button, which was the case in the X model, and of course, the 5G connections.
Features of iPhone 15
The whistles and bells of the iPhone 15 are to be enticing. Borders are encircling the display, thinner by one-third, and have a titanium frame in the Pro model. These features render the model lighter and look premium compared to the present stainless steel design. The processor is much faster and is equipped with a big camera.
However, it is being reckoned that this time around, the sale of the new model with not depend on the features alone. Also, Apple will have to coax shoppers more this time to make them open their wallets.
Bloomberg News reports one of the main aspects of the conference call Thursday was to discuss the slowdown. iPhone sales dropped 2.4% in the past quarter to $39.7 billion, coming in as per estimates of Wall Street.
A few of the earlier glitches that the device has had to face include a 2019 rough patch in China, disruption in supply chain demand in 2022, and a delay in launch caused due to Covid pandemic in 2020.
What did Apple attribute to the adverse results?
Apple has said that the currency headwinds are to be blamed for all the glitches and delays. However, it also agreed that shoppers in the United States are no longer spending in the manner they used to.
Moreover, Apple’s sale in the home country was paler than in China, as the Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook, called out the quarter’s highlight.
