Six Sigma Certification Levels You Should Know About

Six Sigma is a popular training program that has been implemented by many companies to help improve their quality control, performance, and operational processes.

The program was developed in 1986 by Motorola University to reduce defects through statistical process control (SPC), which is the methodology used for measuring and analyzing data.

There are different program levels, including the black belt, master black belt, green belt, yellow belt, white belt, and black belt master. The first certificate is the Six Sigma white belt, which you can receive as soon as you complete training and pass a certification exam.

Here’s a more in-depth look at each level of Six Sigma certifications, what they mean, and who offers them:

    White belt certification level

The Six Sigma white belt certification is the first step to becoming a black belt. You’ll take an online course, complete hands-on training, and pass a certification exam. Most online companies will offer this level of certification for beginners; however, you can also sign up through brick-and-mortar schools if they’re in your area.

The white belt certification level shows that you have completed a training course and can understand the basics of Six Sigma. It is a good foundation for mentors to build upon while training their team members or students.

    Black belt certification level

To become a black belt in Six Sigma, you must complete several years of experience and go through a mentorship program. The black belt certification level typically takes 1-3 years to complete, depending on where you get your training from.

The Six Sigma black belt shows that you have considerable experience in the program and expert in process improvement methods within your company or workplace.

The level of certification is for people who have enough experience working with the Lean Six Sigma process improvement program.

    Master black belt certification level

The highest accolade in Six Sigma is the Master Black Belt certification, which you can only receive after years of training and experience. You must also pass a business case study with your findings to be awarded this level of certification.

The Master Black belt shows that you are an expert in all areas of the Six Sigma program, which you can use to help other people train and mentor their teams. This certification is a sign of great experience and knowledge in quality management systems.

    Green belt certification level

The green belt certification level shows that you understand Six Sigma principles and perform process improvement projects. You’ll take an online course, attend training sessions, and pass a certification exam.

The green belt level is an entry point to the Six Sigma process improvement program for companies just starting with quality management. You can also get your green belt certified through some brick-and-mortar schools if they’re in your area.

    Yellow belt certification level

The yellow belt is the first course you can receive in Lean Six Sigma. It shows that you have basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma but don’t yet know how to apply it to real-life projects. You’ll take an online course and pass a certification exam.

As part of this level of certification, you will learn about Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and the tools you’ll use for quality management. You can get your yellow belt certified through most online companies, or you can find brick-and-mortar schools in your area if they offer training programs.

    Lean certification level

Named for its creator, Taiichi Ohno of Toyota Motor Corporation, Lean is a process improvement methodology used along with Six Sigma. You’ll learn more about Lean principles, theory, and how it’s applied to real-life projects in the Lean training course.

The Lean Six Sigma program teaches you how to implement these two quality management systems together instead of using one or the other. You will also learn about the different tools required for successful process improvement projects, including Value Stream Mapping and A3 Report documentation.

Why should you choose lean six sigma training?

Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing principles can be applied to make any project more effective and efficient, whether you’re working on a product or service system or improving internal processes at your company.

The Lean Six Sigma program combines two quality management methodologies that can be used together to create faster and more effective results and document processes through A3 reports and Value Stream Mapping.

You’ll have access to many tools, including fishbone diagrams, Pareto charts; check sheets, the DMAIC model, and more.

Using the Lean Six Sigma method, you can create a roadmap for successful projects to meet your goals and requirements while documenting these processes with A3 reports.

All of the above Six Sigma Belt is essential for you to become a master in this field. You are supposed to explore all the other essential information regarding this.
