Tennis star Serena Williams welcomed Rodger Federer to the retirement club as the latter decided to bid the game goodbye on Thursday. Serena paid her tributes to the tennis legend for inspiring millions, including herself.
Tennis great Rodger Federer, 41, took to his Instagram profile to announce his retirement officially. He is set to play his last game in London next weekend, and Laver Cup will be held there next week.
Serena called it an end to her tennis career this month only after finishing the US Open singles tournament, where she lost in the third round.
Two of the biggest stars on the tennis court decided to quit the game in the same month, leaving the fans pretty unhappy. With Federer and Serena retiring, one of the golden eras has ended.
What Serena wrote to Federer
After the Swiss star declared his decision, the winner of twenty-three Grand Slams quickly took to her IG profile to applaud him. She claimed that Rodger Federer had inspired not only her but millions of other people. Serena said that she always admires Federer and will have a look at whatever he does next. No one will ever forget him, wrote Serena Williams on Instagram.
End to an era
The Grand Slam winner of 20 times went to the quarter-finals in Wimbledon games last year.
Federer was in the top position in the world for 237 weeks consecutively.
The Swiss maestro had recently undergone knee surgeries thrice as he had severe injuries.
Federer’s message
The star showed gratitude towards all his fans, co-players, family, and friends. He said he wanted to return to his previous form and worked hard for it. But finally, he understood that this body was not permitting him anymore. The king of grass courts, as Roger Federer is called lovingly, mentioned that he has got far more from tennis than he thought.
