Samsung has been offering foldable smartphones to its customers for a few years, and it is the only company making such phones. But the company’s idea of innovations isn’t restricted to smartphones only; it is planning to offer more developed foldable devices shortly, and Slidable displays are one of them.
Samsung’s slidable devices
The tech giant showcased its new 6.7-inch slidable device with an OLED display in May 2022. The device has a vertical extension system, making it different from the other display prototypes expanding horizontally. Samsung Display has now globally revealed a slidable display for PCs which is 17-inch in size, and the company is claiming to be the world’s first. The device looks like a tablet, and JS Choi, CEO of Samsung Display, demonstrated that the 13-inch device expands to 17-inches horizontally.
Other specifications like the resolution of the display panel, brightness and aspect ratio are still unknown, and the company hasn’t revealed its durability either.
The tech giant from South Korea seems to be thinking of offering something unique through this product. Because its features may not be as simple as seen in the demo given while global revelation. Samsung is calling it slidable, not expandable. It means there could be something more for the users. Oppo and LG have also introduced their expandable displays, but for smartphones, not for PCs. So it won’t be surprised if this slidable device from Samsung contains an exclusive feature, if not more.
Other companies’ slidable devices
LG came up with its Rollable smartphone two years ago but stopped selling smartphones afterwards. In the case of Oppo, the flexible device they made was a rollable smartphone, and it also didn’t hit the market. So, there is a curiosity among tech lovers about the slidable device brought by Samsung, and they are eager to see the device making it to the market.
