In a major setback, Russia ordered its troops in Ukraine to move out of Kherson city, captured in February after it invaded the country.
Russia’s Statement
Russia is under immense pressure these days as Ukrainian troops have started to counter, and Russian soldiers in Ukraine are facing massive crises of resources. This is another blow to Moscow, as the Russian forces have been ordered to pull out completely from River Dnipro’s western banks.
General Sergei Surovikin, the Russian commander in Ukraine, said that they could not continue supplying the regional capital of Ukraine.
The top brass of the Russian force announced it on television, where Surovikin reported from the ground zero. President Vladimir Putin was absent from the event, however. The annexation decision for Kherson and three other Ukrainian regions captured by Russia was announced by Putin himself in September.
Ukraine is Cautious
But Ukrainian officials are cautious about the decision, and they are dealing with the situation very carefully, as addressed by President Volodymyr Zelensky. He said he didn’t expect any gift or good gesture from Russia. They have to win everything, and they are treating this Russian decision without emotion and risks, added Zelensky.
Ukraine also clearly said they don’t believe in words but want actions after Russia announced the decision. They said they would take every step very cautiously with the help of their good intelligence.
The Present Scenario
The news of Russia’s probable exit from Kherson had been doing rounds for a while. The Russian troops expressed their fear that they might be drawn into a trap.
On the other side, Ukrainian civilians said that after Moscow announced the exit, Russian troops were seen roaming around the streets of Kherson city and going into cafes.
