The USA has firmly warned Russia about launching a nuclear attack on Ukraine. America has said that Moscow will face the consequences, which will be catastrophic if they use nuclear armaments in the war against Ukraine. Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, made a nuclear threat last week in a speech where he announced partial mobilization in Russia. He stated that Moscow could use every weapon to protect their annexed territories.
USA’s warning
Jake Sullivan, the national security advisor of the USA, said that Russia would face severe consequences if it crossed the line. Though the steps Joe Biden‘s administration is thinking of taking are not made public, Sullivan said they had informed Moscow what they mean in detail. The USA is discussing war situations with Russia now and then, added Sullivan. He has indicated that the USA is ready with arms and ammunition to prevent Russia.
Russia’s intentions
After Putin cleared his intentions on using nuclear weapons, the US president criticized the decision, saying it was not right, calling Moscow irresponsible.
Meanwhile, Russia has promised to offer complete protection to its annexed regions. The Russian parliament is likely to formalize annexation soon. Even regions of East Ukraine taken forcefully by Russia went for voting regarding annexing. As Ukrainian troops are using Western arms, annexations are hiring the risk of a military rift.
What Ukraine says
Sergei Lavrov, the Ukrainian Foreign minister, replied to Putin’s threat, saying they would leave no stones unturned to protect their territory. He called Moscow’s claims regarding the illegitimate government installation in Ukraine false.
Situation in Russia
Many Russians have been revolting against the Government since the war started in Ukraine last February. After Moscow sought every male citizen, including ex-army personnel, to join the armed forces, protests became louder. Even unfit people were also being called to report for army duties. Moscow then promised to correct the mistakes amid public outrage.
