Essential Survival Kit for Remote Workers’ Work-Life Balance

Creating a workspace at home to start working from home is quite challenging because it takes much more than having a computer, fast internet connection, and power. You might have occasionally worked from home when on leave and could manage with the bare minimum. But to work from home regularly, which has become a norm, you need to recreate an office-like workspace that ensures comfortable working with enough convenience. Comfortable workspaces support ease of working and make you more productive while keeping you happy by taking proper care of your mental health. To create a comfortable and productive workspace at home, you must get some additional gear offered in working from the home survival kit package. Your employer might provide a starter kit, but you can improve by adding a few more items.

Why call it a working from home survival kit?

The work from home kit has the adjective ‘survival’ tagged to it because not only does it contains items necessary for creating a workspace for working comfortably, but it also includes items that help to take care of your mental health and wellbeing. Working from home might sound appealing because of the comfortable and relaxed work environment with enough flexibility, but remote working can be tedious at times and build mental stress. Ignoring the aspects that trigger mental stress when working from home can affect your overall wellness and health. Therefore the WFH kit must include items that help you thrive in the home environment while maintaining the desired level of productivity.

The contents of starter home kits

You need a starter kit to set up the workspace at home. You will need a desk or work table or laptop stand, a comfortable desk chair, and a good desk lamp which are the minimum things to start the work. To support extended working regularly, you will need something more like a suitable office desk, a monitor, and a monitor arm for more comfortable working. You must have a proper power supply together with power back up and high-speed internet connectivity to commence working full-time from home.

Your employer will provide you the laptop with a webcam loaded with the necessary enterprise software and other software compatible with the OS, a headset or headphone and cables, and a charger. These should be enough to start the work. Depending on your work profile, your employer might even provide you with additional apps and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

    Full-time home office kit

When you work from home regularly, you must create a workspace similar to what you have in the office. You might call it an office survival kit as the setup helps maintain business continuity. You need a comfortable, ergonomically designed chair where you would be spending long hours. To meet the urgency to start the work immediately, you can start with your existing chair at home but should get the right chair soon. Having a laptop stand helps maintain the correct sitting posture while allowing the portability of the home office setup. Having a desk lamp ensures the right kind of workspace illumination and reduces eyestrains in the evenings while facilitating better reading and writing. For a more extensive setup, you need a suitable office desk and an external monitor.

Having the right tools and equipment you usually need in the office will make remote work comfortable and encourage you to focus on your work in a better way.

    Get the survival kit

Once you set up your own home office and are confident of delivering what the company expects from you when working remotely, you need to pay attention to what you need to take care of your wellness and wellbeing. The work survival kit should include items that allow you to relax and rewind when taking work breaks or recess. Generally, the kits contain some organizational tools, games, office accessories, snacks, and much more that provide recreational options and help de-stress the mind by countering the boredom of continuous work alone.

The working from home survival kit helps balance the workload by providing some enjoyable options that refresh the mind and helps to stay productive without feeling fatigued.
