Edited excerpts from the Interview:
Business Upside [BU]: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: I had begun to do random acts of kindness and wanted to find a way to make a bigger impact and fund more acts of kindness campaigns so I decided to begin selling my artwork to raise money and the 501c3 Kindleigh was born.
Business Upside [BU]: What was your mission at the outset?
[LC]: Our mission at the outset was the same as it is today… to make the world a nicer place one act of kindness at a time.
Business Upside [BU]: How do you advertise your business?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: We grew our following through social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. We share stories about giving back and seek to inspire others to get involved and to share their ideas as well. We have an online community with over 18,000 members globally and continue to grow each day.
Business Upside [BU]: To what do you attribute your success?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: I attribute our success to being a heart-led business. Our organization is supported by passionate volunteers looking to make an impact and they see their time with the company as a way to combat the everyday stresses of work and home by finding a place to give back.
Business Upside [BU]: What do you look for in an employee?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: I always look for authenticity and a desire to solve problems and help others.

Business Upside [BU]: What is unique about your company?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: What’s unique about our organization is that our causes are random so we often support several other charities and organizations in highlighting their missions through our acts of kindness.
Business Upside [BU]: Does your company help the community where it is located?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: Aside from a national reach we are located in southwest Florida and we always perform acts of kindness in our city as well as in other locations across the country. We partner with many local charities to support their efforts.
Business Upside [BU]: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting, what would it be?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: Don’t rush to market, allow your business or concept time to grow organically. Be clear about your vision but always open to the gift of feedback.
Business Upside [BU]: How do you measure success?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: We measure success on the ripple effect of those we touch through acts of kindness. If we can inspire even one person to give back and help the world we know that one person can continue to have an exponential impact.
Business Upside [BU]: What is your management style?
Leigh M. Clark [LC]: I like to hone in on people’s strengths and design positions that highlight the things they excel at and are passionate about. I know that productive people feel valued and creatively inspired so I feel our job is to create that environment if we want the best for and from our people.
