Hollywood actor Johnny Depp reportedly received a staggering USD 300 million offer from Disney to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow from the famous “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, according to poptopic.com.
Johnny Depp has Received a Proposal from Disney to Join the Pirates Franchise Once More
According to the Australian pop culture rumor website, “Disney has supposedly offered Depp a USD 300 million contract agreement for him to return in another Pirates movie and a Disney Plus series!”
Poptopic.com said, according to a reliable source connected with the company, “Disney is eager to mend their strained relationship with Johnny Depp. They contacted the actor and inquired about his willingness to return for one or more Pirates movies before the Amber Heard defamation trial against him.
According to a source, Disney gave Depp a gift box and a nice note. The studio wrote a draft for a Jack Sparrow movie and is hopeful that Johnny will pardon them and return in his iconic role.
The site’s source also stated that Disney is ready to go above and beyond this agreement to get Depp to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow, surpassing what Heard’s attorney predicted the actor would reject.
The Disney source at Poptopic.com continued, “A USD 300 million agreement between Disney and Depp will include a sizeable donation to the charity of Depp’s choice. According to the agreement, Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and a spin-off Disney Plus series depicting the Captain of the Black Pearl’s early life.”
Why is Disney Allegedly Giving Depp a $300 Million Contract?
It should be mentioned that the stated sum of USD 300 million is just $1 million more than the figure cited by Heard’s attorney, Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, during Depp’s defamation trial.
Disney hasn’t yet confirmed Depp’s comeback to the franchise or dropped any clues about it, and they haven’t said anything about this USD 300 million deal either. Therefore, this may be nothing more than a rumor.
Warner Bros., on the other hand, had fired the actor from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise after Heard’s op-ed in the Washington Post. This was at the center of Depp’s widely publicized USD 50 million defamation case.
The jury decided on June 1 in place of the public defamation trial, concluding that Depp had proved that Heard had defamed him in the 2018 op-ed. Depp has maintained that he never physically hurt Heard and claimed she had physically abused him.
Due to a Virginia rule that caps punitive damages, Heard will only have to pay USD 8.4 million of the USD 15 million in damages the jury awarded Depp. According to People magazine, Heard’s countersuit resulted in a victory on one of the three defamation allegations and a settlement of USD 2 million.
