Bloomberg News reports that with the help of language models like ChatGPT, employers can now produce accurate job descriptions and identify and locate the best candidates. They can also scan through the CVs. This scenario for the human recruiters means that layoffs are not a looming threat as yet.
Cyborg – Indeed
Citing the example of the employment platform based in the United States, Indeed. At the beginning of this year, Indeed, which has been listing more than 30 million positions spread over 60 countries, was found conducting the first-ever round of job cuts since its inception in 2004.
The Chief Executive Officer, Chris Hyams, announced to Bloomberg that the layoffs drastically impacted the recruitment department. This round of job cuts witnessed as many as 2200 people relinquish their employment opportunities, equivalent to 15% of the labor force. He also said that there were no cuts for the AI team. However, he revealed that most cuts were for the recruitment department.
Salary Negotiation by Robots
With the advancement in technology, robots will be negotiating salaries. They will also conduct interviews with candidates that will most likely be face-to-face.
As such, Hyams plans to create a new breed of “Cyborg” staff. Human beings and AI will work in tandem as a team so that there can be future-proof roles for the ones that stay back in the recruitment department of Indeed.
Indeed Hire
To begin with, the first test will be with Indeed Hire, a new product. This will be a full-service agency for helping other companies hire. The main company has already shifted as many as 50 staffers to the new department.
Bloomberg News reports that, unlike Elon Musk’s proposed cohort of cyborg workers that will have bionic implants, Hyams does not want to create anything similar.
While talking to Bloomberg, he said his team uses artificial intelligence to make roles more efficient. He also added that this will take over the annoying and repetitive aspects of the job.
Exploring futuristic companies – Indeed is not the only one
Indeed, it is not the only company keen on futuristic models. Towards the beginning of this year, Roblox, an online gaming platform, introduced a virtual career center.
Any candidate applying for a job with the company can step inside the headquarters, which is immersive and reimagining the environment they would be working in should they qualify for the job.
The job seekers will also be able to go through reading material that will be useful for the interview at the career center library. Candidates can also go through informative material related to the company’s innovation, history, approach, and philosophy.
