Hurricane Ian became the most dangerous storm hitting the USA in years. It battered the Florida coast with as much as 150 mph with high-speed winds. Ian left at least 2.4 million homes destroyed on the Florida coast after landfall at local time 15:10 on Wednesday. People wanted the help of rescue personnel due to water or wall collapse, but officials found it hard to reach them, overcoming the weather conditions.
Ian rattles Florida
Hospital roofs were blown off, cars submerged, and numerous trees fell. Now Ian has become a category one hurricane storm from category four. But the next twenty-four hours are crucial, said the officials warning the Floridians to stay cautious. They have urged people to take safe shelters. The rainfall continues till Thursday.
As per the forecast, Ian’s surge reached twelve feet in a few areas.
A hospital faced severe damage in Florida’s Port Charlotte. The roof of an ICU broke down because of the storm, and the entire hospital with 160 patients was flooded. Hospital staff shifted the patients to safer places but couldn’t evacuate them overnight due to bad weather conditions.
After creating heavy storm surges and rainfall in Florida, Hurricane Ian headed towards the northern parts of the USA, like South Carolina and Georgia.
Even when it was weakened to become a category one storm, Ian’s wind speed was 90 mph. Centring in South Orlando, the hurricane caused fatal flooding and river flooding.
Two died in Cuba
In Cuba, at least two persons died, and the whole island was without power for a long time. They died when parts of houses collapsed on them.
Rescue operations
Rescue operations were going on everywhere, and thousands of national troops led them. Officials are utilizing all their resources to combat the situation. But, the operations couldn’t run smoothly due to terrible weather conditions.
