Huawei Beats Apple to Announce its First Satellite Texting Device

Huawei is introducing a satellite texting device in the world. The tech giant of China has reached one step ahead of its rivals in the world of satellite communication. It announced launching a smartphone with the technology of satellite texting. The new series of smartphones is called Mate 50. As of now, two models feature satellite texting technology, and those are Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro.

Huawei didn’t seem to have a concrete satellite phone plan until very recently, and the list of companies planning to bring satellite texting phones didn’t include Huawei. After the USA imposed sanctions, Huawei seemed out of the competition. But the tech giants have exceeded expectations.

    What is a Satellite Phone?

Huawei has already introduced its satellite smartphones, and others are working on it too. So it’s wiser to obtain some knowledge about what is a satellite phone. A satellite phone is a device that allows you to connect when you are out of the phone coverage area. It may be the sea, the mountain, or the remote countryside. You can be in touch with your family and friends while flying or sailing. The phone uses the satellite network to get connected. The satellite phones have wide variations.

    The price

Building, launching, and sustaining satellites take too many costs, which is why satellite phones are too expensive.

    The Satellite Network

The Huawei device uses the BeiDou Navigation Satellite Networking System of China to feature satellite texting. Currently, the Mate 50 series smartphone Huawei has limited power. Users can send short satellite texts and can’t use the navigation in areas where the cellular signal doesn’t work. The Mate 50 satellite texting device now sends texts and can’t receive messages. It works with independent battery power.

Importance of a Satellite Texting Device

The world is a global village now. In this century, the world is more linked than ever. Still, some places, like the sea or a desert, can’t be connected. Those are the places where satellite texting phones will work and provide emergency communication in places without a signal. The smartphone Huawei Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro can help the administration in natural disasters.

Other Companies working On Satellite Phone Plans

Tech giant Apple is also working on satellite phones for months. Apple has been in the buzz in this context since 2019. There were rumors that iPhone 13 would feature the technology, and the same was being heard for the iPhone 14 launch. Experts were assuming that Apple would have two-way messaging and even phone calls. Ultimately Huawei made its debut. Google also planned to bring the technology and confirmed Android 14’s satellite communication support. T-Mobile and Starlink of SpaceX joined hands recently to develop a smartphone that can directly connect to the satellites.

    About The Huawei device

The smartphone Huawei has introduced for satellite communication has a 50MP primary camera and 13MP wide lens. The Meta 50 model has a 90Hz OLED screen of 6.7-inch, and the Pro model has a 120Hz OLED screen of 6.74-inch. The former has a telephoto sensor of 12MP, and the latter has that of 64MP. Meta 50 offers 100x zoom, and the Pro offers 200x zoom. The smartphones support the 4G Snapdragon 8+ chip of Gen 1. Smartphones generally feature fixed apertures, and these phones have moving apertures. But the lenses in the phones are too small to create any difference.

    Conclusion

Making satellite calls and getting satellite-based internet connections via smartphones don’t seem to happen soon. Still, Huawei has made a good start with their new satellite texting device, and other companies will now be hurrying to launch their satellite smartphones. Experts think this satellite communication technology will generate standard revenue for the tech industry.
