How Businesses Can Continue to Make Their Workspaces Safer for Employees

Over the last year or so, many businesses have been focused on one thing when it comes to safety. Companies have redesigned offices, installed new protective equipment, and even forced some employees to work from home to reduce the risk of them catching coronavirus. While it’s been important to focus on this important issue, it’s important that companies don’t let other aspects of health and safety slip as a result. To get on top of this you might want to provide your safety committee with updates or a Leading Safety WHS Committee Training NSW course. Here’s a look at some of the ways businesses can continue to make their workspaces safer for employees.

Reducing the chance of trips and falls

One of the biggest risks for any worker in any working environment is to have a trip or fall. If there’s a particularly high step or a steep path where employees are more likely to fall, most companies will often warn people of the danger with signs and hazard tape. The only problem is that a trip or a fall can happen at any place at any time. With this in mind, it can be difficult to know exactly what you can do to reduce this problem. One of the biggest causes of trips can often be that things are left on the floor for somebody to either trip over or lose their footing on. If you work in a busy warehouse or factory, it’s highly likely that some waste simply won’t make it into the bin and end up being left on the floor. To reduce the chance of overflowing bins causing trip hazards like these, it’s important to invest in devices like recycling compactors that can help you organize this waste. Not only do these devices help reduce the amount of space that this waste creates, but they also secure all of the waste into solid bundles that can be stored safely until they’re ready to be collected.

Providing staff with the right equipment

Another big cause of accidents in the workplace are the pieces of equipment workers have to use in their day-to-day work. Other than training them how to use the piece of equipment properly and providing them with the right safety gear, it might seem there’s very little else you can do to reduce this problem. As well as training staff, it’s also important to check whether the equipment they are using is indeed the right tool for the job. If a worker is forcing a tool to do something it’s not designed to do, it’s a lot more likely to result in them getting injured. Consider whether there are any better tools you can purchase to make these processes safer.

    Making time for regular breaks

A worker’s concentration can be affected by a lot of things. Some of the biggest factors are tiredness, hunger and even needing the bathroom.

Make sure you provide workers with sufficient breaks to make sure none of these factors impact their concentration. It’s also important to make sure workers are given regular days off so they don’t feel too exhausted or burnt out to complete their jobs.
