The Investigation
The Sikh family was abducted from a building where their trucking company was. But family members confirmed that nothing from the company was stolen. The kidnapped persons were wearing jewelry. A debit card that belonged to a member of the kidnapped family was used after the abduction. The ATM card was used in the city of Atwater in Merced’s north.
The family is from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur and has lived in Merced since they recently started the trucking business.
An abandoned vehicle caught fire on the highway on Monday at around noon. The police personnel reached the trucking company while tracking the car’s owner. A relative of the kidnapped family was there at that time. After the family members could not reach via phone, a missing report was lodged, and police started investigations. After the surveillance footage was revealed, agencies, including the FBI, started cooperating with the investigation.
