Football is a very popular sport in the world. But, American Football is somewhat different from the usual football. Although, football was not popular but its roots stemmed from two sports, soccer and rugby, which was highly appreciated in many nations throughout the world.
In the year 1972 some universities notably Columbia, Yale, Stevens Institute of technology participated in inter-collegiate sports game. Among all the colleges Rutgers made significant efforts in reach of the game by playing match against Colombia in New York. This is the first match in the history of American football which ended in a tie. However, it wasn’t until the 1880s that a famous rugby player from Yale, Walter Camp, made some remarkable changes in the rule of the game. Immediately after the Civil War, athletic clubs that sponsored various sports teams including football that became a popular phenomenon in the United States. By the end of 1880s, most of the athletic clubs owned a football team.
