Greatest News for Podcast Fans: Twitter Steps into Podcast World

Finally, Twitter is officially going to move to podcasts. The app launched the test version of Twitter Spaces on 25th August 2022. In 2020, Twitter released the Twitter Spaces technology, enabling users to create and participate in real-time audio rooms. Since then, Twitter has added several new capabilities to Spaces, one of which is the capability to record sessions for later listening. However, in the most recent update to Spaces, the Twitter podcast is now a legitimate platform. It will allow the users to experience listening to the entire show through the filtered playlist determined by their interests.

In March, the official roundtable Twitter app announced podcasts’ existence for the first time. Now Twitter has confirmed a new location for users to access their preferred podcasts within the Twitter app and website.

The Spaces tab will display podcasts as a result of revamped app. Users will have the option called “Station,” where they can filter shows based on categories, including news, music, and sports. The themes and the people you follow will determine your recommended reading. Furthermore, Twitter users may access a tailored collection of recorded and live Spaces. The hubs will also feature the most well-liked podcasts from around the globe will also be featured on the hubs. To let Twitter recognize if a podcast’s content impresses you, you can rate it with a thumbs up or down after discovering it.

The social media platform reveals that 45% of Users on social media also listen to the Twitter podcast every month, as noted in a recent internal study. Consequently, the business anticipates that customers will use Twitter even more frequently. The company claims that the new Spaces tab will offer a “more individualized experience,” claims Twitter. Users will view the information following their interests, and you can rate the suggestions Twitter displays in front of you with a thumbs up or thumbs down.

How soon will the Twitter podcast be made accessible?

Twitter stated that a select group of iOS and Android users worldwide receive the redesigned Spaces tab featuring podcasts. They will initially only be available to customers who already have English set as their primary language.

How to access the options or stations?

Three options will appear when you first click the Spaces Tab. You can listen to various themes and Topics through the Stations at the top of the page and scroll horizontally. You will see the Spaces highlighted below, which feature a selection of the best audio material.

Considering that the social network has been observing and evaluating a podcast component for the past few months, the statement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Initial tests, however, suggested that Twitter was focusing on a specific podcasts tab; nevertheless, today’s announcement demonstrates that Twitter is more focused on making podcast apps into Spaces than on providing them their own space on the platform. Twitter is creating audio stations and a customized audio digest.

We’re continuing to invest in audio artists by incorporating Twitter podcasts into Spaces, where audio discussions take place on Twitter, stated Twitter in a blog post. According to the statement, they commenced with a revamped audio interface in the Spaces Tab to deliver this information in a simple and intuitive approach that enables users to push, play, and go.

To help users find material based on their interests, Twitter will now dynamically recommend podcasts. According to internal data, 45% of Twitter users in the U.S. who utilize the service do so monthly. When asked if Twitter has a timeframe for the larger rollout or desktop release of podcasts, a representative for the social network responded to TechCrunch that the business will collect feedback on the initial evaluation and develop the functionality soon. By providing customers with much more audio programming to engage with, Twitter claims that the integration of podcasts is part of its efforts to offer users an all-in-one, personalized audio experience.

The introduction of the Twitter podcast program coincides with Meta’s Facebook’s recent closure of its podcast program, which was only in operation for about a year. Additionally, the corporation stopped offering its Audio hub and a short-form audio product called Soundbites. The shift coincided as TikTok, another well-known short-form video app, was reportedly intensifying its competition with Meta by giving short-video projects priority over other ventures.

Considering Facebook’s decision to stop making podcast apps, Twitter’s entry into the audio medium could give it a competitive advantage over other social media channels if it can grow them effectively.

It’s important to note that Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, the former director of security at Twitter, recently said that Spaces lacked the necessary moderation. In an astounding allegation, Zatko made the assertion. According to Zatko, a Twitter executive misled staff and board representatives in December 2021 when he claimed that the characteristic was being appropriately moderated. He later learned, however, that about 50 percent of Spaces content marked for evaluation was in a language the moderation team didn’t speak, and there was very little to no moderation happening.

Imagining the advertising probabilities around being capable of sharing and listening to a Twitter podcast in the app is more accessible than the fact that it’s not there. The clipping ability is not there in the evaluation. So far as the listening is concerned, it can only be possible with the Spaces tab, not in the timeline. It is not clarified when the users can expect the official launch, but the final version of the aspect will depend on how users respond to the evaluation. But the amalgamation of Twitter and podcasts will prove to be fruitful.
