The Grammy-winning rapper, composer, and actor Coolio has passed away. He was best remembered for his 1995 single “Gangsta’s Paradise.” He was 59.
Jarel Posey, the rapper’s longstanding manager, confirmed that Coolio passed away on Wednesday afternoon at about 5 p.m. He was discovered at a friend’s home.
In the 1990s, Coolio became a well-known rapper after penning “Gangsta’s Paradise” for Michelle Pfeiffer-starring movie “Dangerous Minds” in 1995. It was his most significant break. It soon became one of the most well-known rap songs ever recorded. It spent three weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and finished in 1995 as the best single in the U.S. Coolio won the Grammy Award for the best rap solo performance in 1996. The song “Gangsta’s Paradise” was nominated for record of the year.
Works of Coolio
After “Gangsta’s Paradise” gained tremendous popularity in the middle of the 1990s, Coolio’s celebrity image grew even more. Subsequently, he performed “Aw, Here It Goes!” for the theme song of Nickelodeon’s “Kenan & Kel,” which he also starred in. His third music album was “C U When U Get There”. “My Soul,” released in 1997, peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Although the song was gold-certified, it didn’t achieve the same impact as his previous two albums. It ended up being his latest album with Tommy Boy.
Coolio has three movies in process, as per his IMDB page: The TV movie “Vegas High,” Rob Margolies’ “Bobcat Moretti,” and “It wants Blood 2.” After barely finishing a concert on September 18 at Chicago’s Riot Fest, Coolio proceeded to perform.
