Google Wallet vs. Google Pay; All you need to know

Google rebrands its services from time to time and does not seem to care much about the confusion of the users. It has done the same with its payment apps. Yes, we are talking about Google Pay and Google wallet. Over the decade, both the payment apps from Google have seen drastic revamps. After the convoluted path that the apps have taken, Google released a newer version of its digital wallet this year in July. It resembles Google Pay, the app already known to the young generation. Now, for the users, the scenario has become like Google wallet vs. google pay. The most common questions arising in the users’ minds are the differences and which one to use.

    The History

Google wallet is not new, and it dates back to 2011. Back then, people could use the Google wallet account for sending or paying money and had a credit card too. The card allowed paying both online and in physical stores. The concept of paying people or stores worldwide just by a few clicks was unfamiliar. Google wallet card was helpful at that time. In 2015, Google launched Android Pay, and until 2018, Google wallet ran separately from it. Afterward, Google combined the two and named it Google Pay or Gpay. The Google wallet account credit card was also made invalid. Now, the two are separate again.

    Google Wallet

It is a digital wallet having credit and debit cards, tickets, transportation passes, loyalty cards, and gift cards. The tap-to-pay option offers to pay online or in-store via this wallet. It may not be apparent while paying all the time currently, but it will replace Gpay with time and has all features of Gpay. Google targets introducing this payment system as its default in most global markets. Initially, it will hit thirty-eight markets worldwide, and in other countries, Gpay will run as usual for the time being. People can store keys, certificates, and licenses in a digital wallet.

    How does Gpay work

Gpay has also seen a lot of revamps since its launch. There was confusion about the name as it kept changing, and designs were modified more than once. The Gpay app now offers one-tap payment, sending or receiving money from person to person, buying things from online and offline stores, paying bills, in-app messaging, and purchase tracking.

    Google Wallet for businesses

Google wants to stick to a single payment option globally, which is why it rebranded its Google wallet. Now, global merchants are likely to prefer Google Wallet for businesses, and a new payment option will attract more new customers. A modified and well-designed payment app will make payments easy and thus will increase sales.

    How safe is Gpay

Users may sometimes doubt if Gpay is safe or not, and they may choose Google wallet over Gpay in that case. Google Wallet account offers safe and secure payments along with cards, digital IDs, keys, event tickets, and vaccination proofs. It has encrypted codes for payment, two-step verification, and privacy control, among other security systems.

    Google Wallet vs. Google pay

When it comes to Google wallet vs. google pay, users may get confused. The newer version of Google’s older digital wallet has become the primary payment option in countries like USA and Singapore. People may like the newer option more, as it offers to store so many vital things in the wallet. Gpay will be around, but just as a payment option. Other countries except the thirty-eight targeted by Google will continue using Gpay as they did.

    Conclusion

Google will not likely restrict itself to merging the wallet and Gpay app features, and it is probably thinking of taking a way forward. As Gpay failed to give the effect Google expected, the tech giant considers strengthening the revised wallet more to make it win the Google wallet vs. google pay conflict.
