Future of Robotics: What it has in store for us?

Robotics is now dominating each and every facet of home and office. This particular technology has the capacity of transforming lives, our way of working, enhancing productivity and safety features, and offering an improved degree of services. So, it is quite evident that the future of robotics is bright and it is going to be an indispensable part of human life.

    The future of robotics

robotics engineeringAs laid down by a Forrester Report, around 6% of all the employments in the United States will be wiped out by robots by 2021. The evaluation by McKinsey is more comprehensive. They think that approximately 33% of the jobs in the United States would turn automated or robotized by 2030. However, this does not necessarily mean that we human beings should lose hope. As technological advances did in the past, the future generation of robots using automation and artificial intelligence to modernize operations, presently managed with the help of human laborers will considerably modify the employment market.

The concept of robotics symbolizes a type of disruptive innovation. This is an expression that denotes an upcoming technology that can make use of fewer resources and therefore, it is a better contender against those minus it.

    Elastic nanorobots

robotics kitThese types of robots are hopeful artificial muscle technology in the making. They are still in the nascent phase of research and development. Carbon nanotubes have minimal shortcomings. This feature allows the filaments to bend elastically by many percentages. In the case of metal nanotubes, the degree of energy storage is around 10 J/cm3. With this substance, medical technologists can substitute human biceps with a wire or cable with a diameter of 8 mm. With this kind of solid muscle, future robots will be able to run faster and jump higher than human beings.

    Gesture recognition

robotics with aiThe future of robotics will see robots recognizing gestures from human beings as a feature of Artificial Intelligence. In this way, you can describe the making of a doughnut to a robot chef or request for finding a location from a robot police officer. For instance, the robot will distinguish gestures done by you and probably replicate them for approval. In the second instance, the robotic police officer will make a gesture to show “up the road, then turn left”. There is a high probability that gestures or signals will comprise a significant component of the communication between robots and human beings. In both the abovementioned instances, making signals and gestures will help the spoken communications or explanations.

    Robots with personality

robotics to buildIn several science fiction films, directors showed that robots have a personality. However, this feature may not be suitable for business robots in the future. Still, scientific investigators are attempting to generate robots that seem to possess a personality, that is, they utilize facial expressions, voice, and mannerisms to attempt to show an inner feeling, such as happiness, grief, or fright. One promotional instance is a toy robot dinosaur named Pleo, which displays many manifest feelings.

    Social intelligence

robotics lawThe Georgia Institute of Technology, alternatively known as Georgia Tech, has a Socially Intelligent Machines Lab. It explores novel ideas of steered instructing communications with robots. The goal of the missions is a social robot that gets to know about assignments and objectives from human manifestations without previous cognition of advanced ideas. These novel ideas are based on subordinate uninterrupted sensor data via unsupervised learning. In this way, the assignment objectives are later on studied with the help of a Bayesian technique. Researchers use these ideas to transmit know-how to forthcoming assignments, leading to the quicker acquisition of knowledge about those assignments. The Robot Curi shows the outcomes and can ladle a certain amount of pasta from a container onto a dish and spread the sauce on top of it.

It is expected that in the future, robots will carry out several extremely replicative, perilous, or disagreeable jobs in a range of industries such as construction, cultivation, healthcare, transportation, firefighting, or housekeeping services.

    Generation Robots

To explain the degree of progress of a robot, the expression used is Generation Robots. Professor Hans Moravec, the Chief Research Scientist of the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute is the person who created this expression to explain the future transformation of robots. According to his classification, robots belong to the following generations:

    robotics future

    1) First Generation Robots – These robots, as forecasted by Moravec, should have an intellectual property like a lizard. They are incompetent at learning.

    2) Second Generation Robots – The second-generation robots would be an advancement over the first generation. Their intelligence is analogous to that of a mouse.

    3) Third Generation Robots – Their intelligence is similar to that of a monkey.

    4) Fourth Generation Robots – These robots will have human intelligence, as forecasted by Professor Moravec. Nonetheless, this will not take place before 2040 or 2050.

AI comes with its perks and drawbacks so as the future of robotics. The era will witness varied and growing collaboration between robots and humans in different areas and we as humans will increasingly become dependent on robots for performing our day-to-day mundane tasks.
