Elon Musk, the creator of SpaceX, Tesla, and the Boring Company, has changed the title of his Twitter account to “perfume salesman.” That’s a fair assessment given that he recently unveiled Burnt Hair, a brand-new bottled perfume that can be purchased online at the Boring Company website.
Musk’s Announcement
The joke about the perfume has moved from the realm of humor to reality. Musk teased the impending item in a tweet that read “Burnt Hair — Scent for Men by Singed” towards the end of September. It connects to the Boring Company’s 2018 sale of a flamethrower, another eccentric item. In a tweet on Tuesday, Musk officially announced the perfume’s arrival and referred to it as the most pleasing smell on Earth. In subsequent tweets, he appeared to be experimenting with catchphrases.
Nobody is being persuaded that Burnt Hair smells lovely. Apart from some promotional language that refers to the item as the core of repulsive desire, the item page contains very little information. According to a few quotes, it feels like you’re hovering over a candle at dinner, making you distinguish yourself from others as you pass people in an airport.
All this oddness has a certain logic to it. Musk pointed out that it was only natural to enter the fragrance industry with a name like Musk. Sales of the $100 per container (£90, AU$160) perfume appear to be driven by Musk’s fame. He said that 10,000 containers of Burnt Hair had been bought as of Tuesday night.
