The latest headache for Twitter owner Elon Musk is the impersonation of accounts, and he has held the blue checkmark system for that.
The Blue Checkmark
Musk said in a tweet on Monday evening that there are things to figure out before the blue checkmark system is launched and until the micro-blogging site finds a better way to stop impersonation.
The billionaire also hinted that there might be different colors for individuals and organizations to represent verified Twitter accounts.
Twitter’s verification process involved meeting specific criteria earlier, and Musk, after acquiring the platform, declared to be available by paying $8/month, which has been trending in the news for quite some time now.
In just one week, the platform already granted grey checkmarks to official accounts of governments and then revoked them. Then it announced a subscription fee for blue checkmarks of $8 per month and halted it.
Musk on Impersonation
The Tesla CEO said earlier that any Twitter account engaged in impersonation would be immediately suspended, except they clarify that they are doing it for parody. Soon after Musk declared this, Twitter flooded with parody accounts, creating chaos and confusion. Then he further announced that it would not be enough to include the word “parody” in their bio, but the word should be added with their profile names also.
Elon Musk and Twitter
Twitter has hit the headlines since Elon Musk purchased the platform for $44 billion. The world’s richest person laid off numerous employees from the social media platform soon after acquiring the company. He cleared his intentions that he would do anything and everything to make the company gain some profit and maintain harmony.
