Donald Trump launched a bid to retain power as the US President in 2024, soon after Republicans failed to gain expected seats in Congress in the midterm elections.
Trumps’ Announcement
Trump, who was quite reluctant to accept his presidential election defeat in 2020 and mounted several attacks on the democracy’s integrity, announced it from his Florida estate on Tuesday.
In his speech of over an hour in a well-decorated ballroom with American flags and chandeliers, the ex-US president spoke to hundreds of his supporters.
What did Trump Project?
Trump came into power with his notion of ‘America first,’ and when he announced his candidacy for 2024 again, he told people, including his family members, former staffers, and donors, that he wants to come back to power to “make America great again.”
He said he will make the nation like it was two years ago.
The former president also mentioned issues like the migrant crisis, increasing crime rates, and drug addiction which he promised to resolve after regaining the chair.
He vowed to offer the strongest punishment for drug dealers and rehire army personnel who have lost their jobs for not getting vaccinated.
Trump was, however, silent on the matters like his claims of voter fraud in the previous presidential election and violent attacks by his supporters to stop declaring Joe Biden as the winner.
Biden’s Reactions
US President Joe Biden refused to comment on Trump’s White House bid when asked about it in Indonesia’s Bali, where he is attending the G-20 summit. Later, he posted a video on Twitter that criticized Trump’s record during his presidential tenure.
Deciding on the Republican nominee is not a short-term procedure. The first-level contests are likely to happen in over a year, and the formal selection will occur by the summer of 2024.
