In such circumstances, charities provide aid to those in need. One of them is the Ostrova Charitable Foundation, specializing in assisting adults and kids with cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia since 2010.
Entrepreneur Dmitry Gordovich is a member of Ostrova’s Board of Trustees. He is convinced that truly effective care for patients should be systematic. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder manifested in the malfunctioning of water-salt metabolism. As a result, all the secrets of the body acquire too high viscosity. Thick mucus causes damage to many organs, primarily the lungs. In advanced forms of the disorder lung transplantation is the only way out.
The existing methods of treating individuals with cystic fibrosis with targeted drugs are quite effective and can significantly improve the well-being and physical fitness of patients. Thanks to targeted therapy, many people manage to avoid transplantation.
However, the cost of targeted therapy is very high: one person requires 15–20 thousand dollars per month. The state pays for patients under 19 years — but they have to pay themselves for the expensive preparatory study.
The Ostrova Charitable Foundation with the help of BBR Bank pays for sequencing for at least 20 people per year. The organization also funds the purchase of special nutrition for patients who are preparing for a lung transplant. In 2023, the fund’s expenses for buying such meals amounted to 17 thousand dollars.
At the initiative of Dmitry Gordovich, BBR Bank financially supports scientific research to detect methods for treating cystic fibrosis and another genetic disorder — primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). The Bank ensures the participation of local specialists in international congresses, where doctors share their expertise in the treatment of orphan diseases.
Dmitry Gordovich also provides financial support to the Kurortny boarding house for elderly people with disabilities. Elderly patients permanently live and undergo rehabilitation there. Thanks to sponsorship, they receive decent care.

Dmitry Gordovich is a sports enthusiast. He is fond of squash, a sport that is often called “chess with a ball”. The popularity of this discipline keeps increasing on a national scale. The annual White Nights Open squash tournament held by the BBR Bank plays a significant role in it. As the top manager of BBR Bank, Dmitry Gordovich is actively involved in the organization of the tournament. Moreover, the businessman sponsors the annual Tramontana Boulder Battle rock climbing competition.
For his contribution to the preparation of skiers and snowboarders for the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Games in Sochi, Dmitry Gordovich received a commemorative medal and a diploma.
