Data Breach Wrongdoing at Tesla Blamed on Insider

Bloomberg News reports that there has been a massive data breach, including 9 residents of Maine. As many as 75,735 people were impacted adversely by the incident.

    Where are the employees from?

These were present or former employees working at the automaker’s Austin, Texas-based office. The data breach, which took place in May, affected more than 75,000 people. The breach that occurred involved employee-related records. It resulted from “insider wrongdoing,” as revealed by the Maine Attorney General on Friday.

A total of 75,735 people suffered due to the data breach. This includes nine people residing in Maine. The wrongdoers were current employees that were earlier associated with Tesla.

When was the data breach revealed?

One foreign media contacted Tesla to inform them about the May 10th, 2023 data breach. The information said that these wrongdoers obtained confidential information about Tesla. An investigation was undertaken, which revealed that two former workers of Tesla caused a misappropriation of information, causing a violation of the IT security and data protection policies of Tesla. These employees shared the information with the media outlet.

    Contents of the letter

The letter says that Tesla has filed lawsuits against the two employees that were formerly associated with the company. However, the letter did not mention the jurisdiction where they filed the lawsuit. As a result of the lawsuits, electronic devices were seized. These devices contained the stolen information of the company.

According to Bloomberg News, the automaker giant obtained court orders prohibiting former employees from using, accessing, and disseminating data. It was subject to criminal penalties. The automaker extended full cooperation with external forensic professionals and the law enforcement body. Tesla said that it would continue to offer its support for the investigation in future as well.

Steven Elentukh, working as the data privacy offer of Tesla, was not available for any comments immediately. An email requested his comments on Sunday.
