Sean Rad was born in 1986 to Iranian family and later migrated to US. He grew up in a Persian community. During his high school he has done his internship as entertainment manager.
In February 2012, when Sean Rad was 25 years, he took up a job with a start-up company at an annual salary of $160,000. He was a school dropout and did not have much to show as his achievement in his resume except for some failed start-ups.
Regarding approaching women, Rad described himself as shy and awkward. In a contest to come up with a new business idea at a hackathon, Rad and his team came up with an idea of a dating app that could connect people who showed mutual interest. Rad, considered the founder of Tinder, initially named his business “Tender” but Whitney Wolfe, his co-founder, suggested “Tinder” instead.
Tinder used the matching process method, allowing communication to happen when the user swiped right on others’ profiles.
He is best known as the creator of Tinder. In annual Crunchies awards, organized by TechCrunch, Tinder won the “Best New Startup of 2013” award.
Here are some Rad quotes to get some motivation.
- “Meeting new people is a fundamental human need”
- “Apparently there’s a term for someone who gets turned on by intellectual stuff. You know, just talking. What’s the word?”
- “We believe in democracy. If society just wants to “hook up”, who am I to judge?”
- “I’m focused. It’s such a critical time for the company so unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time for any of that.”
- “Data beats emotions.”
- “That feminism has led to it because now women are more independent and pursuing their desires. And that leads to both parties being more sexually active. It’s not because of Tinder.”
- “Look at what’s happening in society. We’re living in a technical age, it’s creating transparency and equality and connecting us. On top of that, women are more independent than ever. Tinder isn’t redefining romance. Progress is.”
New Venture
The Tinder founder Sean Rad has now moved to a new idea, “Happy Ring,” where he has teamed up with a tech firm to make a wearable device that can accurately display the ring wearer’s mood.
Is Tinder the Best Dating App?
Tinder is considered the best dating app because it does not check whether the user’s profile is genuine. The app is excellent from the women’s viewpoint and favorable to them.
