From 2023, the Canadian government will grant work permits to the dependents of temporary foreign workers. Both experts from India and other immigrants will benefit from this endeavor. Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, made this most significant announcement on Friday.
Before this, if the Primary candidates held a high-skill job, a work permit only allowed the spouses. This interim approach hopes to enhance the workers’ physical health, mental well-being, and financial security by keeping the family together. Following the press release of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the employee is anticipated to integrate better into their work community and surroundings.
Sean Fraser’s Opinion on Open Work Permit
According to Sean Fraser, the government will continue assisting companies in overcoming labor shortages. It promotes the employees’ welfare and brings their families together. The number 1 obstacle is confronting Canada’s tourist economy. The government is implementing advanced, family-oriented solutions to address the problem. It supports expanding tourist partners to satisfy the global demand for the Canadian experience.
Starting in January 2023, Canada will phase in the expansion of spouses and children who are eligible to work there for all ability levels through a temporary 2-year policy. It would include, for instance, employees’ families in the hospitality, trades, and healthcare sectors. According to the official statement, extending the validity of work permits to family members traveling to Canada with the lead application would help alleviate labor shortages by supporting employers in obtaining the required personnel.
According to estimates, more than 200,000 foreign workers’ families could start working in Canada because of this new strategy. It provides more opportunities for foreign workers looking for employment there and companies trying to fill their labor shortages.
To Ensure the Interim Measure’s Effective Execution, The Process Will be Carried Out in Three Stages
- Family members of workers entering Canada via the high-wage flow of the International Mobility Program or Temporary Foreign Worker Program. They will be eligible to apply for an open work permit during Phase 1.
- After discussions, Phase 2 will try to extend the policy to immigrants’ families from the Temporary Foreign Worker Program’s low-wage category. To determine if extending the policy to the families of agricultural workers is operationally feasible.
- Phase 3 will involve dialogue with agricultural partners and stakeholders.
