A recent survey shows kids are getting up late at night to examine their phone alerts. A poll of 60 10-year-olds from inner-city schools conducted by De Montfort University in Leicester shows that 12.5% of youngsters willingly get themselves awake to check mobile phones. Kids only slept 8.7 hours each night, below the nine to eleven hours that experts advise for kids of this age. It translates to a loss of one night’s sleep per week because of the late-night gloom scrolling.
Sleep Cycle
Dr. Shaw claims that kids use their smartphones late at night mainly because of “FOMO” (fear of missing out). Children really would like to know what their pals are doing. If you aren’t internet while something occurs, it implies you’re not participating. This fear of missing out is harming their sleep cycle.
However, frequent use of social media can also trigger anxiety, making it harder for young people to put down their smartphones. It’s crucial to create sleep regimens, said Dr. Shaw. He puts his phone away one hour before going to sleep, and if he must, he has a blue-light screen.
Solution
According to Dr. Max Davie, children and teenagers should cast aside their gadgets at least an hour before bedtime to prevent sleep patterns from being disturbed. According to him, not getting enough sleep can significantly harm young people’s wellness, relationships with family and friends, and ability to perform at their best in school.
