Zach Cregger has directed the Barbarian movie. He is a debutant, and the movie stars Georgina Campbell, Justin Long of Scream Kings fame, and Bill Skarsgard. It would not be wrong to say that the Barbarian movie gives its audience sleepless nights.
Three Movies for the Price of One
The Barbarian horror movie will offer you three movies at the price of one. However, not all movies are different and work equally well. Although the director has tried to merge the three into one, the effort is worthwhile and speaks volumes of the audacity of the debutant director, Zach Cregger.
Putting up or enacting a movie of this genre has been an aversion for most directors. However, this movie from the West is a melange of comedy, horror, and romance.
The best part about The Barbarian movie is that all three movies show a different style of horror filmmaking. There is a shift between the tones; interestingly, the dame has been done deliberately.
Barbarian Movie – Top at the Box Office
The Barbarian horror movie was at the top of the box office in early September. Although for most horror movies, the audience comes out in droves and then disappears just as fast, this movie in particular has broken that trend. And the movie has managed to hold on to its audience. Also, since its top position at the box office, there have been as many as 550 screens where the movie has been added.
Instance of Unseen Horror
This movie is an instance of unprecedented horror. A few past directors have labelled or tagged their movies as ‘elevated horror” only to convey to the audience that it is more than scary. Two such movies that have been labelled as such include The Witch and Get Out.
The stock elements of the movie that Cregger relies upon include scenes that revolve around a scary house that is situated on a street that is entirely deserted, a woman who is standing at the top of a flight of stairs and gradually descends only to call out a hello, and doors and windows that close and open on their own.
On the first day of the Toronto International Film Festival, every horror movie lover and others had just one name on their lips: the Barbarian movie. But incidentally, the Barbarian horror movie was not on the playing list at the TIFF. However, the time of September is usually referred to as a ‘dead zone’ for the release of movies.
Even though it was not played at TIFF and was released in early September, the Barbarian movie did come out to be a hit with the people, especially the ones who are fond of watching movies belonging to the horror genre.
