Apple Inc. is facing a unionization push in several of its stores and has been holding meetings with its employees and highlighting the company’s benefits by posting notices.
What is the issue?
The company started publishing laminated notices in its store backrooms. Its two-page note on Thursday outlines the benefits provide by the company to its employees, such as a product discount program, health insurance, a 401 (K) plan, and vacation time.
The memo has also been posted in different U.S. retail outlets, but individual location managers sign each version.
The letter mentions how the management profoundly cares about its team members at Apple and values its relationship. The company has, over the years, built a solid foundation that is built on care, respect, support, and connection. By listening and working as a team, the company continuously evolves its unique workplace culture.
As per Bloomberg News, Apple Inc. faces a surge in labor campaigns similar to Amazon Inc and Starbucks Corp. While no Apple store has an officially recognized union, there are several locations, including New York, Washington State, Maryland, Florida, and Georgia working with labor groups.
The Apple stores at Towson, Maryland, and Cumberland Mall in Atlanta are closest to having unions, and both the stores have failed to hold elections for the Unions.
The letter from the company to the employees does not make any reference to the unions. Still, by highlighting the benefits, they attempt to show that the employees are better off without unions. The company is also holding one-on-one meetings between retail workers and managers to discuss the workers’ discomfort.
The letter says that the company is committed to having an organization where employees can nurture and thrive in their careers. It also hopes that the information is helpful to the workers. The company has more to offer and clarifies any questions the workers have.
