Americans paid respect to people who lost their lives in the attacks of 9/11 with teary eyes. Sunday marked the 21st anniversary of the deadliest attack. They vowed, once more, not to forget the day that shook their country’s soil.
The victim’s family said they don’t feel like twenty years have passed, and the wounds of losing their dear ones are still very fresh. No one can ever forget the day, no matter how long it is, added a victim’s sister.
Many officials and the family members of the victim gathered at the Memorial in New York to raise the national flag on the day. People convened at the Pentagon and Pennsylvania too. President Joe Biden also paid tribute to those killed in the attack. He said the terrorists had failed the wound the character of the country. The President thanked the service members and the civilians who responded bravely to the attack.
Some communities held candlelight rallies and other commemorations in other places.
Two decades ago, the attack that took place on September 11 killed almost three thousand people. Terrorists attacked the World Trade Centre and Pentagon buildings along with Shanksville in Pennsylvania. The USA declared war against terror and reconfigured its security policy to combat terrorism from the country and the world.
The death of Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri had brought peace of mind to the victim’s relatives. They said that the killing of Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attack, gave them justice to some extent. Zawahiri’s death also did the same, as he played a vital role in the attack.
The Americans think that though the attack has united them, they don’t want another one ever again.
