Burger King franchises may be found in malls throughout the US. But in Wilmington, Delaware, a classic Burger King restaurant was found this year at the Concord Mall. It is said that the abandoned fast-food establishment was “completely intact,” with trash and French fries remaining inside.
Abandoned Burger King Found in Delaware
The 1987-built Burger King gained attention after a guy accidentally found it at Concord Mall. The Burger King in Delaware’s oldest mall shut down more than ten years ago. It surprised shoppers and social media users when they discovered the vacant restaurant and its retro look had been kept behind a wall the entire time.
According to a social media image of the area at Wilmington’s Concord Mall, entering the restaurant would be like entering a time machine. According to Delaware Online, it started in 1987 and ended in 2009. Social media images demonstrate how well-maintained the former fast-food restaurant remains, complete with its seats, booths, mirrors, and colorful wall decorations.
In 2022, the restaurant’s wooden booths, mauve seat covers, and geometric wall designs are unusual compared to how common they were in fast-food restaurants nationwide. According to reports, the Burger King outlet is hidden from the general public on the first level and is only open to mall employees with a key.
@RealJezebelley, a user, tweeted an image of the former Burger King location from April. Several pastel-colored tables and booths with piled white chairs are set up in the shot. @RealJezebelley wrote, “At Wilmington, Delaware’s Concord Mall, a vintage Burger King in perfect condition was discovered behind a wall. A Twitter user @losterskwaddd posted a video showing her utilizing Burger King as a storage space in 2019. Even the restroom footage she recorded showed walls still stained with BBQ sauce.
When his business took over the Concord Mall in January 2020, Burger King was abandoned and concealed behind a wall, according to Tom Dahlke, general manager of the mall. “It’s pretty cool.
Thousands of Twitter users and mall visitors have expressed their “nostalgia” for the store, Dahlke continued, noting that the mall eventually intends to occupy the vacant space. Dahlke is now trying to lease the space, and a new restaurant may benefit from its kitchen and layout.
The restaurant’s management brought the county’s mayor, Matt Meyer, for a visit, and the New Castle County Government’s Facebook page posted a video of their tour.
Despite being unable to confirm specifics about the site, a Burger King representative said: “We have confirmed that the delightfully vintage design and décor closely resemble Burger King establishments open in the 1980s and 1990s and that this is a former Burger King restaurant.”
