Deadliest Missile Strikes in Ukraine to Increase Pressure on Russia

There are only sirens everywhere in parts of Ukraine as Russia strikes again, which is hard enough to take at least nineteen lives and injure more than a hundred people.

Missile Strikes in Ukraine earlier affected energy infrastructure in Lviv, a western Ukrainian city, and the southern city Zaporizhzhia was targeted later on Tuesday.

    Missile Strikes in Ukraine

The strike hit regions of Ukraine, including its capital Kyiv. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, addressed on Monday after the Russian missile strike on Ukraine that they will not be menaced.

Russian missile strike on Ukraine came within a few days of bombing the bridge that connects Crimea to mainland Russia. Crimea is the country that Russia annexed illegally in 2014.

The strikes severely damaged parts of Ukraine’s energy grid and officials were working to repair the damages and resume the power supply. The energy ministry declared to halt electricity export to the European Union, which was about to start the same day the Russian missile strike on Ukraine took place.

G7, including the USA, supports Ukraine

Russia Ukraine Update was the main topic of discussion among the G7 leaders when they met with urgency on Tuesday. Ukrainian president Zelenskyy also joined the meeting virtually.

United Nations, European Union, and the USA expressed horror over the fresh strikes by Russia in Ukraine. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his shock over the strike via a spokesperson and said that the strikes might hint at the intensification of the war.

The USA was determined to impose further sanctions and oil price caps on Russia to cripple its economy and continue supporting Ukraine. The Treasury Secretary and Finance Minister of the USA met each other to discuss the latest Russia Ukraine updates and said that US sanctions and price caps had already shuttered the Russian economy and disrupted its operations in Ukraine after the meeting.

The G7 will work together to put more pressure on Russia so that war situations don’t see an escalation. Putting caps on Russian oil will hit Vladimir Putin the most, said Janet Yellen, the Treasury Secretary of the USA. She added that talks with World Bank and IMF would also continue to increase global sanctions on Moscow. Zelenskyy also urged the G7 to put price caps on Russian energy.

G7 leaders promised to support Ukraine till the end and do whatever is needed. They strongly opposed Missile Strikes in Ukraine by Russia and criticized Vladimir Putin. US president Joe Biden also supported the G7 in his tweet.

    Ukraine’s stand

Oleksii Reznikov, the defense minister of Ukraine, would attend a NATO meeting in Belgium. Last month, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that he applied to join NATO and said it was an urgent application.

The Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which was formed this year in April and has met six times since then, will further discuss ways to offer security assistance to Ukraine as the war continues for eight months now. The group comprises almost fifty countries that provide military support to Ukraine. Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defense, would also meet the Ukraine Defense Contact Group following the NATO meeting.

UN sees it as a human rights violation

The United Nations saw the Russian missile strike on Ukraine violating human rights. The UN said that missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Dnipro, causing damage to lives and infrastructure, were shocking, and the organization is investigating the strikes.

USA’s eye on Russia regarding nuclear strike

Since Putin warned about the possible nuclear strike, Joe Biden’s administration is keeping a close eye on Russian movements as the President said he took the warnings seriously.

    Conclusion

As Ukraine started exporting grains as a part of the deal signed to unblock exports of grains a few months ago and countries like Turkey urged a ceasefire, the world was buzzing with Ukraine ceasefire news. But the fresh Missile Strikes in Ukraine showed that a ceasefire is not happening soon.
