Is Putin Heading an Army of Robbers?
Russia’s Deep Rooted Corruption Ruined Themselves in Ukraine War

One thing became clear as Russia deployed 85% of its land forces toward and into Ukraine to overcome the obstinate and unanticipated local opposition: the operation produced a fighting force that was significantly fewer than the estimates of the nation’s renowned million-man army. As an implicit acknowledgment of the Kremlin’s difficulties in its battle in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has now called for his military to expand by 10%. Earlier, the Kremlin said it could deploy 900,000 active soldiers. The Russian military corruption, its dubious organizational choices, and several false geopolitical presumptions constrained the fighting force.

    Russian Corruption and the Consequences

However, authorities and researchers claim that Russian military corruption made these. For instance, recruiters frequently inflate the number of enlistees they claim to have signed up to pocket the difference in money. The Pentagon now thinks that Russia’s instability will prohibit it from achieving its pre-invasion recruitment objectives, much less growing its military to more than 1 million personnel.

Dara Massicot, a specialist on Russia’s military capabilities who previously worked for the Defense Department and is now at the Rand Corp. think tank, explains, “It goes back to Russia’s premise from the outset that they wouldn’t be waging war; they would be welcomed.” They genuinely believed they could get away with it.

This is not how it was always. In the roughly ten years that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kremlin officials tried to implement broad-reaching, sincere reforms to the methods used in the past to field an armed service that was much more dependable and deserving of the great respect that the Russian public opinion at the period accorded to its military services.

Graft in the Putin army is neither a recent problem nor is it restricted to an assessment of the number of soldiers it can field, and this was especially true during the Soviet era. According to evaluations of its latest intervention strategies in Chechnya and Georgia, the deadly flaws in its fighting vehicles and other tools were probably brought on by deliberate inaccurate reporting to siphon ministry funds, pretended irresponsibility, theft of intellectual property, and other outrageously fraudulent actions.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s determination to invade Ukraine in February on a volume that had not been seen in Europe since World War II revealed how much corruption in Russia had destroyed its Defense Ministry for the first time. Corrupt practices have weakened the military’s capability to arm its front-line fighters, count the actual size of its militaries, and allow its commanding officers to give accurate appraisals of the condition of the equipment and the active service and reserve tries to force they are in charge of.

Retired Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, who most recently oversaw the deployment of all U.S. troops in Europe starting in 2014 when Russia initially won the conflict and sparked the fighting in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, said it’s possible that these problems—misreporting, resignations for failing to meet standards, and, in particular, every Russian soldier—are the result of either negligence or corruption. As they often do, they stole heroically.

    Ukraine Military Analysis

The Russian T-80 combat tanks are a collection of boxes allegedly loaded with metal layers and high explosives that can successfully prevent an incoming round from entering the tank’s skin. However, the Ukrainian soldiers who examined the dead bodies of the fighter tanks they destroyed found a few instances where the difficult life-saving technique had been bypassed with the help of some crucial parts that remained undamaged and no sign that the relatively expensive explosives had ever been there – not since the Russian corruption got involved in the conflict in the first place.

Since many of these recruits, according to the U.S. assessment, are elderly, unfit, and undertrained, any more personnel Moscow can marshal by the end of the year will probably not boost Moscow’s overall fighting capabilities.

What do Russian Soldiers Think about Invading Ukraine?

According to Robert Person, an international affairs professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Russia’s worldwide influence is a fundamental issue for Putin and the one thing he cares about most. However, many who work in Russia’s military-industrial complex are equally unscrupulous as their counterparts in the government’s other departments. Why should they be barred from enjoying the amenities that corruption has sponsored simply since they are involved in military defense?

Thus, everybody wants to have a piece of the action, which leads to widespread skimming, theft, and improper distribution of funds, weapons, supplies, and other resources throughout the military. However, unlike the “civilian sectors,” the “power vertical” does not allow this theft to be publicly acknowledged. According to Person, robbing the Putin army is not allowed in the same manner that it might be – or even encouraged – in civilian heavy industry. So they lie up the chain, just as decades’ worth of Soviet officers and defense bureaucrats before them. To hide the extent of their thievery, they lie about the readiness of their troops and equipment and how the budget is used.

Putin will never discover the truth about how corrupted his army is, how poorly they are likely to function as a consequence, or that everybody who surrounds him relies on him for their income, position, and even freedom. The person adds that as a consequence of Putin and his advisers’ grave overestimation of army resources and manpower, a tactically catastrophic error to initiate a conflict they were never ready to win occurred.

    Conclusion

Putin has not given any signs that this Russian military corruption crooked process will end, and it is unlikely that it will happen as long as the Putin army complies with his instructions to increase its size to make up for its previous tactical mistakes. Unfortunately, any growth there is probably just going to happen on paper. And it’s still not obvious if Putin will comprehend it. Person concludes that Putin will accept his propaganda till the end depending on what he has observed while researching him and his administration for the past 22 years.
