How to Select the Right Fitness Equipment for Commercial Gyms?

Opening a gym is not as straightforward as one may think it is. Right from planning the gym space, infrastructure, investment budget, and choosing the right mix of exercise equipment is crucial for the business venture’s success.

Here we will look at some of the essential factors to consider when starting.

    Determining the gym space

It is important to note a significant portion of the gym goes towards the non-equipment areas such as the lobby and reception area, washrooms, utility rooms, and other miscellaneous areas. The actual area where the commercial fitness equipment is kept for users is only 60% of the total space. So, one will need to plan how many and what type of equipment will fit comfortably.

Choosing the right fitness equipment mix

Once one knows the amount of space available for the equipment, then the type of equipment can be considered accordingly. The commercial gym equipment space is ideally split between cardio, strength, and group exercise with the following ratio- 33% for cardio, 47% for strength, and 20% for group exercise. If one is taking a franchisee, the gym company will give specific rules for equipment allocations.

    Determine leasing or outright buying

Fitness equipment is expensive, and each gym has its own needs. Depending on the business plan, one can lease the equipment as this will allow them to change every few years with the latest and new machines. On the other hand, if the investment is not a problem, one may go for an outright purchase.

Maintenance and warranty of the equipment

The equipment must be safe and reliable for gym members. Maintenance is essential to safeguard users from accidents and damages. The warranty for the machines helps the gym owner ensure the equipment is taken care of in the event of a breakdown. Since exercise equipment is subjected to intensive use every day by users, it is essential to confirm their ability to withstand rigorous stress.

Must-have equipment for a commercial gym – types of workout equipment

    • Cardio equipment – used for aerobic activities and measuring heart rate and calories. Allows users to monitor their workout routines and keep tabs on the same.
    • Elliptical machines – offers up and down motion and cardio exercises for legs, arms, back muscles, etc. They are less stressful for older joints.
    • Stationary bicycle-a compulsory special exercise equipment that improves overall fitness, including cardiovascular health. It is effective for weight loss and essential equipment for any commercial gym.
    • Treadmill – this equipment is another essential asset for any commercial gym, and it enables the user to walk and run indoors. A compact, motorized equipment is recommended as it will take less space in the gym. Also, one should look for a sturdy frame, strong motors for durability, and an emergency stop button for the user’s safety.
    • Vibrator – offers many health benefits, such as allowing muscles to relax and contract on vibration. This results in better blood circulation and improvement in bone density levels.
    • Strength equipment – integral for a commercial gym as it helps build muscles with external weights.

    Conclusion

Choosing the right type of fitness equipment depending on space availability will require expert guidance from the equipment manufacturers.
