The fast-food chain seems to be ubiquitous as it has a presence in every state and 30 countries. The outlets spread the goodness of Mexican cuisine that charmed generations for years together with no signs of fading. But before talking more about the food, here is some exciting story about Taco, which can pleasantly be surprising for all.

Taco was never food at all

Although Tacos mean food as we all know it today, the name does not have even the remotest connection to food. The name has a long history due to its association with Mexican silver miners who wrapped gun powder in paper and pushed them inside the holes carved in the rock. They referred to the paper-wrapped gun powder as Tacos. The transition of the name from gunpowder is quite interesting. The silver miners named their lunch Tacos because of the resemblance between the food and the dynamite. The item for lunch was tortillas wrapped around potatoes or some other similar simple stuffing with hot sauce that looked like the little dynamite sticks.

A brief history of Taco Bell

Glen Bell, the founder of the fast-food restaurant chain, opened the first restaurant in 1962 in Downey, California, and served customers crunchy Tacos which at the time were known as Tay-Kohs, a name fondly given by the customers. Glen Bell had prior experience in operating restaurants. In 1951 he started serving Mexican-inspired Tacos along with Hot Dogs and Hamburgers to create a distinct identity of his products and get an edge over McDonald’s, the nearest rival. The tactic paid off well as Taco Bell expanded quickly, and besides introducing new menu items over time, the company introduced new restaurant concepts. The company engaged in innovative branding by finding new partners and spreading across countries, including India.

    Start your day with Taco

The beauty of the Taco is that you can have it at any time of the day or night, even at midnight or beyond. But the best way to enjoy the Mexican-inspired food is to start your day with Taco.
