How To See If Someone Read Your Email Outlook – Know Your Options

Almost everyone has the experience of waiting indefinitely to respond to their email without any clue whether the recipient has seen it. In such situations, email senders are eager to gauge the recipient’s interest in responding to the email. You should be happy to know how to see if someone read your email outlook about the recipient viewing the email.

From the moment you send an email, expectations start building about getting a reply, especially for essential communications. The delay in receiving an answer can be very frustrating as the sender keeps guessing the reason for not receiving a response. An average adult receives more than a hundred emails per day, and it is impossible to attend to all emails regularly or required. Usually, people select the emails of their interest and attend to them while leaving the rest to fade into oblivion. Unless both the sender and recipient share the same kind of interest, email exchanges might prove abortive in many cases. Knowing how you can tell if an email has been read in Outlook or any other email platform makes you feel relieved.

How to see if someone read your email outlook – the Read Receipt

Outlook users can ask for a read receipt from the recipient, like sending a request to confirm reading the mail. When creating a mail, you can clock on the Options button in the toolbar and tick the box to request a read-receipt for this message. Having done, close the Options window and send the message. When the message reaches the recipient, he has two choices – either accede to the request or may simply say no. Many people prefer the latter option.

This facility might be available to individual Outlook users, but many corporate servers deny issuing read receipts. It means that senders cannot know the fate of their email until they receive a response from the recipient. And there are high chances of recipients not obliging senders. The same is true with some email clients like Gmail, Hotmail, etc., that do not have any provision for senders asking for a ‘read receipt.’ If you are using the free version of Gmail, better not be curious about how to tell if someone read your email on Gmail on phone.

    The delivery receipt

The delivery receipt feature in Outlook tells something about mail delivery, but the information is of partial help to senders. Senders want to know two things – whether the email reached the recipient’s inbox and if the recipient read it. If you are the sender, obviously, you would like to know the latter if you are the sender because it confirms that the recipient took notice of your email. Even then, if you do not receive a response to your email, you can figure out the possible reasons. But the delivery report can flummox senders because it only indicates that the mail reached the recipient’s email server. It does not tell if the email found its way to the recipient’s inbox. The only satisfaction that senders can derive from the delivery report is that the email address they typed was correct. In no way can you tell if someone read your email. However, many email platforms do not provide the option to prevent spammers from accessing email addresses.

Use a third-party extension in Gmail

If you are a Gmail user and want to see if someone read your email after you sent it, you must create an account for G Suite. G Suite is Google’s paid business cloud software. Go to the Settings for Gmail and choose Advanced settings. Scroll down to reach the Email Read Receipts section and switch on the feature. It allows sending email read receipts to everyone in the organization and the selected mail addresses. To emulate the feature in the free version of Gmail, you must use an extension. For example, the free version of the Mailtrack extension allows unlimited tracking.

Now that you know how to see if someone read your email outlook or Gmail, you can keep a better tab on the recipients.
