Comparisons of 4G and 5G Technology

Technology is evolving every second and with that change, there is an increasing demand to improve the wireless infrastructure too. At the beginning of the 2000s, 3G ruled the PCs and later 4G took over the mobile phones.4G built upon the applications and data introduced by 3G and now these applications are a huge part of our everyday life.

4G has turned a whole era into smart technology by connecting everything from homes to cars, from workout routines, health updates, and whatnot to your smartphones by utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

However, every 10 years mobile generation demands an upgrade and improvement on the last one. Right now 5G is slowly taking over 4G with the growing numbers of devices, data, and increasing demand for higher performance levels. It is expected that by the end of 2021 there are going to be up to 438 million 5G connections.

How is 5G better than 4G?

Here is a breakdown between the major differences and upgrades between 4G and 5G technology:

    Reliability

5G technology is meant to deliver multi-GBPs speed, with a lower latency rate, and more reliability with increased availability and uniform speed to more users at the same time. However, the reliability of the network still is not guaranteed yet in so many places.

It is going to take some time even after 5G available devices become widely adopted, people still are using a mix of 4G and 5G. When you are closer to a 5G tower your device will connect and have access to superfast speeds but when you move farther from a limited frequency it will revert to 4G.

With the ever-increasing demand for switching to the fast speed internet, all popular ISPs are planning to provide 5G network to their customers. One name we can easily mention here while talking about the 5G network is AT&T wireless. Their wireless plans are providing unlimited data, talk-time, and text, along with up to 15GB on your wireless hotspot and the option to access the 5G network.

    Speed

With each upgrade since 3G, speeds have been significantly improving. Each cellular generation has been faster than the previous one. The top speeds 4G can reach are up to 100Mbps with the real-world performance reaching not more than 35Mbps whereas 5G has the potential to be 100 times faster than 4G.

Considering the internet speeds offered by ISPs currently, ATT internet marks the top recommendation on our list. Not only are their wireless plans an exception but the speeds offered with their internet plans are also worth paying money for. With their Fiber Internet 1000 plan, you can access ultra-fast download speeds up to 1000 Mbps.

Theoretically, the top speed reach of 5G is about 20Gbps and the real-world speeds begin from 50 Mbps to 3Gbps. The peak speed 4G LTE has is 1GB per second and 5G could be said to achieve speeds of 20GB per second. Having internet speeds this high simply means that downloading and browsing through 5G is going to save you a lot of time.

The higher frequencies can manage to transfer a lot more data, in less time faster than 4G. Where it takes 50 minutes on average to download an HD file using 4G, it only going to take 9 minutes using the 5G.

    Capacity

Too many devices attached to the network at the same time cause clogging or jamming. The network infrastructure cannot take a mass number of devices at the same time that resulting in slowing down data speeds.

5G is expected to solve these issues as the network to going to have significantly more capacity than 4G. It will make it possible to connect many more devices to the network at the same time, which means you will not be facing frustration while using the network in crowded places like stadiums, airports, or during concerts. As 5G networks promise to overcome the capacity issues gradually with time.

    Bandwidth

5G is expected to have a significantly broad bandwidth as compared to 4G.  One of the major reasons is that 5G makes more efficient use of its available spectrum than 4G. Where 4G uses a small piece of the available spectrum from 600 MHz to 2.5 GHz, 5G is further divided into three different bands.

Each band has a different frequency range and speed with different applications and cases for its users, businesses, and industries, which simply indicates how broad 5G networks are in terms of capacity.

    Wrapping it up

To keep up with the constantly evolving technology and upgrading devices, everybody wants to get the best speed and advanced networks. As of now we know that 5G is a lot faster than 4G, it offers a lower latency rate, which means sending and receiving information becomes a quicker process.

No doubt with the increase in opportunities, online risks also increase but 5G network is expected to come with higher security checks. So it’s high time you welcome 5G technology with open arms as it’s very promising and reliable.
